3 10.1 Project Management Overview Software Project Management Definition: A project is a temporary endeavor undertaken to create with people a unique product or service. In software engineering we distinguish different project types (e.g., product development, IT infrastructure, outsourcing, software maintenance, service creation, and so on). A project is accomplished through the use of the processes such as: initiating, planning, executing, controlling and closing It is concerned with activities to ensure that software is delivered on time and on schedule and in accordance with the requirements of the organizations developing and procuring the software Project management is the application of knowledge, skills, tools and techniques to project activities to meet project requirements 2015 IAS, University of Stuttgart 463
