16 Yildiz Technical University Enhanced availability, improved service levels, and reduced costs with a flexible private-cloud on Power The need: Yildiz Technical University (YTU) had increased needs for IT services as a result of a growing number of students and faculty members and newly established campus locations. YTU sought to upgrade its existing Power Systems servers, and also update their application environment. The solution: Working with ComPro Information Technologies (ComPro), YTU incorporated two new IBM Power 740 Express servers, Active Memory Expansion, PowerVM Enterprise Edition and SmartCloud Entry for Power Systems software. PowerVM Live Partition Mobility migrates LPARs from one physical server to another without disruption to the running applications. PowerVM Micro-Partitioning feature optimizes CPU resources. Shared, uncapped CPU mode with business-aligned priority settings and entitlements so that LPARs can easily handle workload spikes by using more CPU resources when needed and immediately releasing them for other applications needs without any administrative intervention The benefits: Significantly increased the IT environment performance Flexible platform to accommodate future growth Enhanced availability, improved service levels, reduced power and cooling costs Scalable and efficient virtual-server infrastructure 16 Solution components: Hardware: SAN24B-5 Power 740 Express w/aix EE Software: PowerVM Enterprise Edition IBM SmartCloud Entry Solution Tivoli Storage Manager Extended Ed WebSphere Application Server DB2 for AIX Lotus Notes
17 Zetark Deployed a fully integrated solution that includes IBM SmartCloud Entry, StorHouse and KVM in two weeks The need: Established at the end of 2012, Zetark is a specialist provider of cloud-based storage and infrastructure-as-a-service solutions. Zetark was founded to offer hosted data storage services to local and regional businesses of all sizes, and had an ambitious deadline to bring its innovative cloud storage offering to market. It wanted to rapidly deploy an infrastructure combining storage performance, flexibility and efficiency.. The solution: Thanks to IBM PureFlex System, we went live in two weeks rather than the two months it would have taken with a conventional infrastructure solution. Zetark chose IBM PureFlex System with Red Hat Linux, open source KVM virtualization technology and FileTek StorHouse software to power its new strategic platform for enterprise cloud storage services. Using IBM Flex System Manager, Zetark can rapidly provision new virtual servers for specific customer requirements, and can even migrate live servers from one physical PureFlex node to another. Maxime Aernout, General Manager, Zetark The benefits: Flex System Manager Flex System x240 Full deployment in two weeks instead of the anticipated two months for a typical infrastructure; PureFlex seamlessly integrates hardware and software, offering easy deployment and management. The company also deployed IBM SmartCloud Entry Solution for System x, using the solution to create a self-service private-cloud option for customers. With SmartCloud Entry, Zetark customers can use a web portal to configure and start a new, fully configured Linux virtual server within just 30 seconds. 17 Solution components: Storage: Storwize V7000 Storage: TS1140 Tape Drive Storage: TS3500 Tape Library IBM SmartCloud Entry
18 Agilisys Revolutionizes the way it delivers services to customers, offering rapid provisioning and near-limitless scalability The need: Agilisys serves both the public and private sectors, and has earned a strong reputation for deep domain expertise within local and central government, healthcare, and financial services. To deliver better service levels for its clients and reduce overhead, Agilisys wanted to find a flexible, scalable, easy-to-manage platform that would be capable of supporting multiple types of IT applications. The solution: Agilisys implemented an IBM PureFlex System to act as both a consolidation platform for clients existing systems, and a private cloud environment for new requirements The solution provides a single platform capable of hosting and managing all these different systems. The company will install new services on the new platform: a pair of UNIT4 Agresso ERP systems owned by two local authorities. These will run in Windows and VMware environments on PureFlex compute nodes. The benefits: Enhances scalability, helping to support clients requirements seamlessly. Accelerates provisioning of new systems by 98 percent. Simplifies management of multiple platforms via a single console. Reduced their operational costs while also improving the levels of service they could provide to their clients, enabling them to deliver even great business value. Enables the ability to create and provision new environments much more rapidly than ever before, going from a four-day lead time for new environments to just a couple of hours. 18 IBM SmartCloud Entry is built into the PureFlex architecture, and provides sophisticated scripting capabilities that will allow us to create and provision new environments much more rapidly than ever before. We will go from a four-day lead time for new environments to just a couple of hours, which is about a 98 percent improvement.. 29 Turk Telecom Group Slashes provisioning time with IBM SmartCloud Entry Ease of use and cost savings make the difference The need: As the leading telecommunications company in Turkey, Türk Telekom Group provides converged communications services ranging from public switched telephone network (PSTN) and Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) to broadband Internet. Türk Telekom Group needed an internal cloud to help speed innovative solutions to market, as well as to provide tight security, easy accessibility, high performance and ease of management to users. The solution: To support its private cloud services, Türk Telekom deployed IBM SmartCloud Entry on an IBM System x 3650 class server with intelligent Intel Xeon processors, using IBM Systems Lab Services This system hosts automated cloud provisioning and manages the company s development and test environment. The IT environment also includes 7 TB of thin-provisioned storage. The self-service feature of IBM SmartCloud Entry on System x servers has helped lessen the burden on our system administrators shoulders. Moreover, we have delegated server administration to the internal end users which means even fewer headaches for our IT staff. Mehmet Selçuk Karaca, consultant, Türk Telekom The benefits: To support its private cloud services, Türk Telekom deployed IBM SmartCloud Entry on an IBM System x 3650 class server with intelligent Intel Xeon processors, using IBM Systems Lab Services. Solution components: In addition to time savings, the solution has enabled significant cost savings for the Türk Telekom IT department. System x System x3650 M3 The solution, as a whole, has also improved relations with the company s internal users, and beyond moving production applications into the environment they intend to extend the solution to existing IBM Power servers.
