Smith University of Floria-IFAS Gulf Coast Researh an Euation Center CR 672 Wimauma, FL Phone: (813) Fax: (813) Davi J. Shuster Steve Kal Curtis A. Nagle Beet armyworm (BAW): Spooptera exigua (Hüner) Fall armyworm (FAW): Spooptera frugipera (J.E. Smith) Southern armyworm (SAW): Spooptera eriania (Stoll) Tomato fruitworm (TFW): Helioverpa zea (Boie) The effiay of eight foliar applie insetiies was evaluate for armyworm ontrol in tomato at the Gulf Coast Researh an Euation Center, Wimauma, FL in the spring of SeuriTy 28 transplants were set 1 Apr, 18 inhes apart within the row on 8- inh-high an 32-inh-wie es of Myakka fine san overe with white polyethylene mulh. Eah plot onsiste of a single 21-ft long row per e. Plots were spae 5 ft apart etween rows an 7 ft apart within rows. Treatments were repliate four times in a RCB esign. Treatments were applie on 11, 17 an 24 May (60 gpa) an on 3 an 10 Jun (90 gpa) (Tale 1) using a 2.5 gal hanhel sprayer with a spray wan outfitte with a single nozzle with a D-5 isk an 45 ore. The sprayer was pressurize y CO 2 to 60 psi. Fruit from the mile 10 plants of eah plot were harveste on 1 an 14 Jun. Fruit in all ategories were ounte an weighe. Worm amage fruit were separate an reore first, without istintion of the amaging speies involve. The remainer of the fruit were lassifie as ulls, where zippering, at-faing or lossom en rot were present, or grae for size y mahine where extra large fruit were > 2.75 inhes in iameter, large were 2.51 to 2.75 inhes in iameter, meium were 2.26 to 2.5 inhes in iameter an small were 2.25 inhes or less in iameter. The ata were reporte as marketale extra large, the sum of all marketale fruit, ull fruit or worm amage fruit per 10 plants. The perent of worm amage fruit y weight an numer was alulate [(worm amage fruit)/(total fruit)] 100 an transforme using arsine [ (% of worm amage fruit/100)] prior to ANOVA. Means were separate y Fisher s Protete LSD (P=0.05). Means an LSDs were reporte in the original sale. There were no signifiant ifferenes among any treatments in total marketale yiel on 1 Jun; however, plots treate with either Coragen followe y or DiPel at 1 l. yiele the greatest weight of extra large fruit (Tale 2). The lowest numers of worm amage fruit ourre with treatments of, Coragen, DiPel alone an alternating with Xentari, an. The least perent of worm amage fruit, y numer or weight, in either harvest ourre in plots treate with Coragen (Tales 2 & 3). The greatest numers of marketale fruit in the seon harvest (14 Jun) ourre with treatments of at 1 l, Coragen followe y either or, an DiPel at 1 l. Only treatments of at 1 l, Coragen followe y, an DiPel at 1 l possesse weights of marketale fruit signifiantly greater than in the non-treate hek (Tale 3). The greatest numers or weights of marketale fruit of the total of oth harvests ourre in plots treate with at 1 l, Coragen followe y either or, DiPel at 1 l, either rate of, or Xentari at (Tale 4). However, only plots treate with at 1 l, Coragen followe y either or, or DiPel at 1 l possesse marketale yiel, y numer or weight, greater than that in the non-treate hek (Tale 4). No phytotoxiity was oserve in any of the treatments. This researh was supporte y inustry gift(s) of pestiie an/or researh funing. 1
