1 Success Story Dyrehavsbakken Amusement Park Selects Allied Telesis as their supplier of a modern networking infrastructure across the whole site (Klampenborg, Copenhagen, Denmark).

2 Dyrehavsbakken Amusement Park Dyrehavsbakken is the world s oldest running amusement park. Located about 10km north of Copenhagen, it opened in 1583 and is the second most visited amusement park in Denmark. With 430 years of history, Dyrehavsbakken now has over one hundred different rides and amusement stalls, which operate as individual businesses; placing high demands on the security of the network infrastructure. The park s network had a need to connect, amongst other things; digital video cameras, smoke detectors, IP phones and payment terminals and, because of the nature of the business, required high availability 24 hours a day, all year round. The similarities with the requirements of Fiber-to-the-Home networking (FTTH) allowed Allied Telesis to use their many years of experience in the industry to design, develop and supply a future-proof solution for this customer. 2 Dyrehavsbakken Amusement Park alliedtelesis.com

3 The Customer Challenge With over one hundred different rides and amusement stalls, each of which operate as an individual business, it had proved difficult to introduce and enforce a common security policy for the entire network. Yet, at the same time, the network needed to be flexible and adaptable to the needs of each of those individual rides and stalls. Alongside the needs of these smaller businesses, the network also needed to connect digital video cameras, smoke detectors, IP phones and payment terminals across the whole site. As the customer s overall business is within the entertainment industry, there was a need to ensure that the network would operate 24 hours a day, all year round. They needed a robust infrastructure capable of delivering high capacity with Quality of Service (QoS) in a tough environment. Customer selects Allied Telesis Allied Telesis were selected as the supplier for this project because of the high fiber density of the products and the solution. Fiber has the advantage that it can carry high volumes of data from edge-to-edge of the network, coping with potential differences in electrical needs and risk of lightning damage. Thus the solution offered met all the customers challenges and Allied Telesis offered the best price/performance switch for the customers needs. Dyrehavsbakken Amusement Park 3

4 Technical Overview A network with so many critical applications must work all the time. The network design combines two powerful features of Allied Telesis switches that, together, provide exceptional accessibility. Two Allied Telesis x600 switches are connected in a VCStack (Virtual Chassis Stacking). This stack is configured with redundant connections to all other components so that all functionality of the network is maintained - even in the rare case of one switch failing. The x600 switches are associated with link aggregation (LAG/ LACP); a generic IEEE standard that makes it easy to connect to third-party equipment, thus enabling all the individual businesses to connect to the network. The switches also associate with Ethernet Protected Switching Ring (EPSRing ); a special Allied Telesis protocol that is robust and ensures the network can resume operation less than 50 milliseconds after any unexpected break in the fiber or an error in one of the lower switches. Should a problem arise in one of the two Allied Telesis x600 switches, there would be no interruption to the network. The network continues to operate as usual and the service technician would change the faulty switch at the next opportunity, reducing the need for service contracts with premium payments for fast response times. Allied Telesis has a full core to intelligent edge solution with AlliedWare Plus. Allied Telesis switches provide exceptional support for iscsi traffic, with the ability to manage hardware-based flow control to maximize throughput and minimize latency. The key is to never drop data packets, i.e. prevent any link oversubscription. Achieving this requires highly responsive flow control, whereby the Ethernet switch can very carefully control the rate of data delivery from the NAS. The responsiveness and accuracy of the flow control in Allied Telesis switches guides the data storage units to send at a consistent high data rate that never quite oversubscribes the switch s port.
