2 Objectives Program Overview General Information Admissions Phase I Phase II Q & A

3 The academy is operated under guidelines established by the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) and the Peace Officer Standards and Training Council (POST) 700 hours of training covered over two quarters. Each class will have 40 students. Two classes are offered per year. Students take 8 courses the first quarter and 7 courses the second quarter.

4 Courses are taught by law enforcement professionals who are POST certified instructors Courses also include defensive tactics, firearms, emergency vehicle operations and physical training. All students must pass all classes to be certified and graduate from the academy.

5 Any student t who fails more than two tests t will be dismissed from the academy. Any student who fails to qualify with a firearm will be dismissed from the academy. Any student who exceeds the minimum allowed absences will be dismissed from the academy. There are no exceptions. All students must pass a background investigation. Classes are Monday thru Friday and generally last from 8:00am to 4:30pm

6 Students earn 40 hours of college credit toward a 2 year degree in Criminal Justice and receive their POST certification as a police officer. Students earn a Basic Law Enforcement Certificate and their POST Certification If you are not employed by a police department while attending the Academy you must complete the POST Pre Service Application i for Certification i

14 Submit copy of your Phase I approval letter Complete appropriate POST application: Pre Service Application for Certification (found in your admissions packet) for academy students not employed in law enforcement. Peace Officer Application for Certification (found on POST website at p// p g/ pp for academy students currently employed in law enforcement. Complete background investigation form Submit an original i certified copy of birth certificate OR a valid Georgia driver s license AND one of the documents listed on page 5 and appendix 9 of the application

17 Phase I: All items must be completed by November 12, Notification of completion will be sent via mail on November 13, 2008 Phase II: All items must be completed by November 25, Financial i Aid must be completed by December 18, 2008.
