Since 1999 the program has helped over 2,000 middle and senior managers build core capabilities for personal and organisational success. It has been meticulously designed to develop management skills in already technically-capable people, with core modules focusing on leading and managing people, fi nancial management, operational excellence and strategic management. The Professional Management Program is a University-recognised non-award program and, subject to entry criteria, can provide status of two subjects into the Adelaide MBA. Two convenient formats are offered - Intensive 6-month or modular 12-month format - each designed to suit the time constraints of busy managers. In both formats, the practical application of knowledge is paramount. Assignments are designed to link classroom knowledge directly to workplace implementation. The program attracts a broad cross-section of participants from the private, public and not-for-profi t sectors, ensuring group diversity that both enhances the learning experience and provides ongoing, strong networks. Approximately 50% of participants have not studied at university previously. 6 Interactive learning Founded on the knowledge that adults learn most effectively by doing, all Professional Management Program tutorial sessions are highly interactive and numbers are limited to a maximum of 30. Participants are strongly encouraged to relate their own experiences of each issue covered, resulting in lively, stimulating discussions that refl ect a diverse range of perspectives across a number of different industries. Typical sessions may include: Group discussions. In-depth case-study analyses. Lectures and video presentations Problem-solving exercises. Participants fi nd that at the completion of each topic they are able to immediately apply their learning in the workplace. 7 The level of support in the Professional Management Program was fantastic as many of the students had not studied for a while and completing six modules over 12 months was achievable. You could take the theory from the classroom and actually implement the knowledge for the workbased assignments and this made it very personal. 8 Rigour, relevance and essential building blocks Program Structure and assessment Program modules Choose from 2 convenient formats The Professional Management Program is delivered in two formats, each designed for busy managers with competing demands on their time, yet maintaining quality and effectiveness of learning. Modular 12-month format The 12-month program consists of six x 2-day modules conducted during the working week. There are no out-of-hours commitments prior to attending each module. A 6-week break between the modules ensures participants have time to refl ect on and assimilate what they ve learned, and apply it to each assignment. The 12-month format allows you to select two elective modules that you feel best serve your immediate needs and those of your organisation. The elective modules vary with each intake and are chosen from Executive Education s extensive range of 2-day courses. You might choose to specialise with two topics from the same discipline (eg Leadership) or choose two completely different topics - whichever is most useful to you. Intensive 6-month format The program is also offered in an Intensive format, comprised of two x 1-week blocks completed over a 6-month period. Week one is delivered over 6 consecutive days, with a gap of approximately 12 weeks before attending the second week. With the fl uctuating demands of travel, business commitments or remote location, this format allows managers to complete the program with fewer contact hours, as pre-reading is provided prior to attending the modules. Whichever format you choose, all learning materials are provided to save valuable time. The Professional Management Program is self-contained and does not require library searches or additional texts. The program is non-residential. Assignments All assignments will be assessed and participants will be encouraged wherever possible to base them on real issues or activities within their workplace. Some assignments may also be team-based. Exam Participants will be required to sit a two-hour multi-disciplined case study exam. The case study will describe a real business situation. This will be provided approximately one week before the exam to allow participants to become familiar with the business being studied. Participants will be required to take the perspective of senior management to answer 4-5 multi-discipline questions. Participants have an opportunity to use their knowledge combined with their analytical and problem solving skills to evaluate the current strategy and make recommendations for the future. Work-Based Project Participants will be asked to select a project of strategic signifi cance to their organisation. Alternatively, they may elect to form a syndicate with one or more fellow participants. Assessment for this component will be based on a 20-minute presentation and the submission of a comprehensive written report, each detailing key fi ndings and recommendations. In recent years, feedback has shown that the vast majority of participants projects have delivered measurable benefi ts to their organisation, including increased revenues, enhanced productivity and greater cost-effi ciencies.
