2 Qualifications The SIS30313 Certificate III in Fitness qualification is your entry level to work in the fitness industry, one of the fastest growing industries in Australia. The fitness instructor qualification provides you with the knowledge and skills to work in the areas of gym or group exercise instruction. The SIS40210 Certificate IV in Fitness qualification is required to work as a personal trainer in a gym or through your own business. This qualification provides the skills and knowledge to set up your own business and run personal training sessions in a range of environments. The YMCA s Certificate III and IV in Fitness Instructor courses are recognised and accredited by Fitness Australia and Physical Activity Australia, and are recognised in many countries around the world including New Zealand, Canada, and the UK. YMCA Fitness Why study with the YMCA? The YMCA is an international provider of quality sport, recreation and fitness training programs. The YMCA own and manage fitness centres right across Australia, so we know exactly what is needed to be a great exercise professional. Qualifications issued by the Institute are recognised Australia-wide, and in many other countries around the world. Students are recognised for registration as exercise professionals with Fitness Australia or Physical Activity Australia. Our courses are specially designed to allow tailoring to suit your needs and requirements. The flexible methods used by the YMCA allow you to study around your other commitments and at your own pace. You don t need to attend formal lectures to achieve your qualification. There are no Course Commencement Dates for you to wait for before you begin to study. The nature of the course allows you to start studying when you want to. The course includes a work placement that will provide you with firsthand experience of the fitness industry. Tutorial support is available to assist you with your studies. Students receive the undivided attention of their tutors, providing students with assistance that is specific to their needs.

3 Course Delivery The YMCA s fitness courses are delivered using two main methods: 1. A series of self-paced learning materials and a textbook that contain the required theory information to complete the course. These are combined with assessment items that are completed in a correspondence format. 2. Practical workshops are held at regular intervals during the year, allowing students have the freedom to choose which practical sessions they would like to attend. Learning support services are also available to assist you. Each student has access to a tutor to help them understand the concepts being covered through face to face tutorial (at YMCA Training offices), telephone or support. The structure of the YMCAs courses allows you to work at your own pace through the course materials. Our support services mean that you can get assistance when you need it. All students have a maximum of twelve months to complete the course you can complete as quickly or as slowly as you like. The flexible nature of the course allows you to work your study around your other commitments and allows you to spend as much time as you require on the course content. To discuss your application in more detail, and to receive an obligation free quote, please contact the YMCA directly on (07)

Practical Workshops The Certificate III in Fitness course includes one, full day practical workshop, and the Certificate IV in Fitness course two. 7 Practical Workshop Details The practical sessions are designed to be relatively informal, allowing you to practice the skills you require in a relaxed atmosphere. The practical sessions cover: Client Screening and Fitness Testing Postural Appraisal Exercise Technique and Analysis Programming Exercise Delivery YMCA Fitness Assessment Details There are three main types of assessment that you will undertake in order to complete either fitness certificate. These are: 1. Assignments The assignments will be in the form of written questions and fitness industry scenarios. You will be required to submit these to your Trainer for marking. 2. Observations You will be observed performing set skills such as teaching a fitness program, motivating clients and conducting fitness assessments. These observations are conducted at each practical session and at the end of the course. 3. Work Placement Log You work placement is designed to provide you with a better understanding of the fitness industry and the range of program delivery options available to a fitness instructor.
