Usingthistechnology,wecanproducesecure,unforgeablepostalindicia. Thispaperdescribesacompletepostalfrankingsystemaddressingtheseconcerns. 3TraditionalIndicia cryptographicindicia. Usingcryptography,wecandesignpostageindiciathatsubstantiallyimproveupon thesecurityoftraditionalpostagemeterindicia.inparticular,wecanguaranteethe destination,sender,andreturnaddressofth ,andthedate/timeofcreationofthe indicia,thecopiedindiciaisonlyvalidformailtothesameaddress.asweshalldiscuss indicia.suchindiciacanbecopied,butsincethedestinationaddressisincludedinthe later,thischeckcanbeautomated.theinclusionoftimestampsallowsustoseta maximum\lifetime"foranindicia.serialnumberstracethesourceoftheattacktoa uniquepostagemeterlicensee.
