2 I N T R O D U C T I O N This scholarship has been established by PricewaterhouseCoopers to assist a student undertake masterslevel research in a business-relevant topic in the areas of accounting, finance or economics at Waikato Management School (WMS). R E G U L A T I O N S 1. The PricewaterhouseCoopers Masters Scholarship is awarded annually to assist a student undertake one year s masters-level, full-time study at Waikato Management School. The Scholarship will be offered on the basis of: Past academic performance Academic quality of the proposed research Perceived benefits of the research to business Leadership potential. 2. The Scholarship shall be awarded annually and be held for one year. 3. The Scholarship has a total value of $20,000 and will be paid in two amounts of $10,000 each on or near 1 April, and on or near 1 August. 4. To be eligible to apply for a PricewaterhouseCoopers Masters Scholarship candidates must meet the following criteria: Have achieved a minimum A- grade average in the last two semesters of university study Have majored in one or more of the following areas of study accounting, finance or economics Be a citizen or permanent resident of New Zealand. 5. To be eligible to take up the Scholarship the candidate must enrol full-time in the Master of Management Studies degree with a main subject in accounting, applied economics and finance, economics or finance. 6. The PricewaterhouseCoopers Masters Scholarship will be awarded on the recommendation of a Selection Committee which shall include a representative from PricewaterhouseCoopers, a WMS Professor of Accounting, a WMS Professor of Economics or Finance, and the WMS representative on the University's Scholarships Committee, or their nominees. Once constituted the committee may co-opt up to two suitably qualified additional people to participate in the selection process. 7. The Selection Committee may refrain from making a recommendation if it finds no candidate of sufficient merit. 8. Applicants should submit a PricewaterhouseCoopers Masters Scholarship application form, an outline of the research they propose to undertake as a masters student, their reason for wishing to undertake this study, their curriculum vitae and at least two references to support the application (including one from a potential supervisor of the research). 9. The closing date for applications is 15 November in the year preceding the masters study.

Promptly following the closing date, all applications will be forwarded to the Waikato Management School. 12. After the closing date, applicants will be advised in writing whether or not they will be invited for an interview with the Selection Committee. 13. The offer of a Scholarship must be accepted by the date indicated in the letter of offer. If any candidate declines a Scholarship, or does not take it up, the Selection Committee may offer the Scholarship to another person. A Scholarship shall be taken up in the year for which it is offered. 14. The following additional conditions apply to this Scholarship: The recipient of the Scholarship will be required to make a presentation about their research project and its key outcomes to executives from PricewaterhouseCoopers at a New Zealand location to be nominated by the scholarship sponsor This presentation is to be made by 30 November in the year in which the Scholarship is taken up. 15. The University of Waikato may, with the consent of PricewaterhouseCoopers, vary these regulations from time to time.
