1 NATURAL RESOURCES DEPARTMENT- Associate of Science Degree (A.S.) (94 credits) Bachel of Science Degree (B.S.) (186 credits) Program Description The Festry curriculum provides the opptunity to study fest management, fest measurement technology, wildfire management and related ecological studies. In this program, students may choose one of two options: Fest Wildland Fire Science. The degrees are similar but contain imptant differences. Refer to each degree plan f specific components required f each degree. Special Admissions Requirements Students may need to strengthen math, writing and reading skills with additional coursewk upon entering the program, depending on results of the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) and consultation with each student on an individual basis with their academic advis. Career Opptunities Completion of the Associate of Science Degree will provide the student with the necessary skills to wk as a fest technician within the Reservation area, the U. S. Fest Service, the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Division of Wildland Fire and other natural resource management ganizations. Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of the Associate of Science degree in Festry, students will: Properly use special measurement instruments used by festers and festry technicians. Apply techniques of fest measurement and scientific principles of festry f sound fest and land management. Crectly identify trees and fest plants. Conduct timber cruising, fest habitat typing, land surveying, and log scaling proficiently (Fest emphasis) and demonstrate a basic understanding of fuels measurement and fuel modeling (Wildlife Fire Science Emphasis) Use critical thinking methods in analyzing and responding to festry resource issues. Bachel of Science, Festry Career Opptunities Completion of the Bachel of Science degree will prepare the student to enter graduate school and also provides the student with the credentials to seek employment as a professional fester. Requirements A student must receive a C better in all required courses while maintaining an overall grade point average of 2.0 to graduate. Students transferring into the program after completing an Associate of Science from another college may substitute equivalent courses within the first two years of the degree plan. These students must have completed all basic math and science courses. New and transferring students should consult with an advis to plan a program to meet their specific goals and requirements f this program. Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of the Bachel of Science in Festry, a student, will, in addition to the goals listed f the A.S. in Festry, be able to: Demonstrate broad-based theetical and technical knowledge of festry sciences wildland fire sciences. Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and a knowledge base of the role of festry in tribal life, and develop an approach to fest research and management wildland fire research and management that hons a tribe s cultural values. Understand the economic and political systems of tribal governments and those agencies that interact with tribes. Apply techniques in communication that build suppt among tribal and non-tribal members f strong and sustainable fest and wildland fire management policies. Complete an individual research problem related to a festry wildland fire management issue. 70
