1 Section Page 1 of 4 PART 1 - GENERAL 1.1 DESCRIPTION OF WORK The work of this Section includes furnishing and installing Reinforced Concrete Pressure Pipe as shown on the Drawings and as specified. 1.2 QUALITY ASSURANCE The CONTRACTOR shall provide certification that the pipe to be installed meets the requirements of the Florida Department of Transportation Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction, dated 2007, Section PRODUCT HANDLING Pipe and appurtenances shall be inspected at point of delivery. Material found to be defective due to manufacture or damage in shipment shall be rejected. Tests as specified in the applicable material standard may be performed to ensure conformance with the standard. PART 2 MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT 2.1 MATERIALS Pipe shall meet the requirements of ASTM C 76M and Section 449 of the Florida Department of Transportation Standard Specifications, 2007 Edition. All pipe shall be Class III. PART 3 EXECUTION 3.1 INSTALLATION A. ALIGNMENT AND GRADE The pipelines shall be laid and maintained to lines and grades established by the Drawings and Specifications, with basins, manholes and pipe ends at the required locations unless otherwise approved by the ENGINEER. Prior to excavation, investigation shall be made to the extent necessary to determine the location to existing underground structures and conflicts. Care shall be exercised to avoid damage to existing structures. When obstructions, not shown on the Drawings, are encountered during the progress of the work and interfere so that an alteration of the Drawings is required, the ENGINEER will alter the Drawings or order a deviation in line and grade or arrange for removal, relocation, or reconstruction of the obstructions. When crossing existing pipelines or other structures, alignment and grade shall be adjusted as necessary, with the approval of the ENGINEER, to provide clearance as required by federal, state, or local regulations or as deemed necessary by the ENGINEER to prevent future damage or contamination of either structure. B. TRENCH CONSTRUCTION

2 Section Page 2 of 4 The trench shall be excavated to the required alignment, depth, and width. Trench preparation shall proceed in advance of pipe installation for only as far as necessary to allow proper pipe installation. The width of the trench at the top of the pipe shall be ample to permit the pipe to be laid and joined properly and allow the backfill to be placed as specified. Holes for the joints shall be provided at each joint but shall not be larger than necessary for joint assembly and assurance that the pipe barrel will lie flat on the trench bottom. Other than noted previously, the trench bottom shall be true and even in order to provide support for the full length of the pipe barrel, except that a slight depression may be provided to allow withdrawal of pipe slings or other lifting tackle. When excavation or rock is encountered, all rock shall be removed to provide a clearance of at least 6 inches below and on each side of all pipe, valves and fittings for pipe sizes 24 inches or smaller, and 9 inches for pipe sizes 30 inches and larger. When excavation is completed, a bed of sand, crushed stone, or earth that is free from stones, large clods, or frozen earth shall be placed on the bottom of the trench to the previously mentioned depths, leveled and tamped. These clearances and bedding procedures shall also be observed for pieces of concrete or masonry and other debris or subterranean structures, such as masonry walls, piers, or foundations that my be encountered during excavation. This installation procedure shall be followed when gravel formations containing loose boulders greater than 8 inches in diameter are encountered. In all cases, the specified clearances shall be maintained between the bottom of all pipe and appurtenances and any part, projection, or pint of rock, boulder, or stones of sufficient size and placement which, in the opinion of the ENGINEER, could cause a fulcrum point. Should the trench pass over a sewer or other previous excavation, the trench bottom shall be sufficiently compacted to provide support equal to that of the native soil or conform to other regulatory requirements in a manner that will prevent damage to the existing installation. When the sub-grade is found to be unstable or to include ashes, cinders, refuse, organic material, or other unsuitable material, such material shall be removed, to a minimum of at least 3 inches, or to the depth ordered by the ENGINEER and replaced under the directions of the ENGINEER with clean, stable backfill material. The bedding shall be consolidated and leveled in order that the pipe may be installed as specified. When the bottom of the trench or the sub-grade is found to consist of material that is unstable to such a degree that, in the judgment of the ENGINEER it cannot be removed, a foundation for the pipe and/or appurtenances shall be constructed using piling, timber, concrete, or other materials at the direction of the ENGINEER. C. PIPE INSTALLATION

3 Section Page 3 of 4 Proper implements, tools, and facilities shall be provided and used for the safe and convenient performance of the work. All pipe shall be lowered carefully into the trench by means of a derrick, ropes, or other suitable tools or equipment in such a manner as to prevent damage to pipeline material and protective coatings and linings. Under no circumstances shall pipeline materials be dropped off or dumped into the trench. The trench should be dewatered prior to installation of the pipe. Pipe, fittings, and other appurtenances shall be examined carefully for damage and other defects immediately before installation. Defective materials shall be marked and held for inspection by the ENGINEER who may prescribe corrective repairs or reject the materials. Joint surfaces shall be wiped clean and dry and be free from dirt, sand, grit, or any foreign material before the pipe is laid. Both the bell and spigot of the pipe sections shall be cleaned just prior to joining. Foreign material shall be prevented from entering the pipe while it is being placed in the trench. During laying operations, no debris, tools, clothing, or other materials shall be placed in the pipe. As each length of pipe is placed in the trench, the joint shall be assembled and the pipe brought to correct line and grade. The pipe shall be secured in place with approved backfill material. At times when pipe laying is not in progress, the open ends of pipe shall be closed by a watertight plug or other means approved by the ENGINEER. When practical, the plug shall remain in place until the trench is pumped completely dry. Care shall be taken to prevent pipe flotation should the trench fill with water. Trench width at the top of pipe, bedding conditions, and backfill placement and compaction shall be such that design loadings on the pipe will not be exceeded. Joint Assembly. Pipe joints shall be assembled in accordance with the Manufacturer s instructions. The bell and spigot of the pipe sections to be joined shall be cleaned prior to joining. A thin layer of a lubricant supplied by the pipe manufacturer shall be applied to the surfaces of the bell, spigot, and gasket. After lubrication, the gasket shall be installed in the spigot groove. The stretch in the gasket should be equalized by inserting a smooth rod under the gasket and moving the rod completely around the full circumference of the spigot. During joint make up, the pipe being lowered into the trench shall be supported so that the jointing effort is a straight in pull. After assembly, position of the gasket shall be checked for conformance to manufacturer s recommended tolerances. Any deviation shall be corrected by disassembly, removal of gasket and reassembly with installation of a new gasket. Pipe Deflection. When it is necessary to deflect pipe from a straight line in either the vertical or horizontal plane, or where long radius curves are permitted, the amount of deflection shall not exceed that recommended by the Manufacturer. Beveled end pipe may be used for additional deflection.

5 PART 1 - GENERAL REQUIREMENTS 1.1 SUMMARY Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University PRESSURE PIPE CLEANING Section Page 1 of 2 This work includes materials and methods to clean new potable water, reuse water, raw water, sanitary and stormwater pressure pipe lines of 6 inches or greater inside diameter by use of a pig and the flushing and cleaning of pressure pipelines less than 6 inches in diameter. 1.2 REFERENCES The requirements of the City Utilities Department Standard Details, latest edition shall apply. 1.3 SUBMITTALS The CONTRACTOR shall submit planned procedures to the CITY for review prior to beginning work. The CITY Utilities Department staff will advise as to whether or not the pipe cleaning and pigging procedures will be acceptable. 1.4 CONTRACTOR RESPONSIBILITIES A. The CONTRACTOR shall secure and pay for all necessary equipment, including cleaning pigs as required, to ensure the pipe is cleaned. Potable water pipe cleaning shall be completed and accepted by the CITY before any effort is made to disinfect the piping. B. CONTRACTOR shall furnish all labor, materials, instruments, fuel, incidentals, and expendables required for cleaning the piping JOB CONDITIONS A. The CONTRACTOR shall review the field conditions prior to placing a bid for this project and evaluate the cleaning schedule that will be required. B. The CITY s approval is required to clean a portion of the new piping system prior to moving on to another section. PART 2 PRODUCTS (Not Applicable) PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.1 PREPARATION

6 PRESSURE PIPE CLEANING Section Page 2 of 2 The CONTRACTOR shall obtain advance approval from the CITY coordinate the pigging and flushing operation due to the additional water resource demand on the CITY system. 3.2 PIGGING & FLUSHING A. Cleaning of lines less than 6 inches inside diameter shall be accomplished by thorough flushing of the line using a CITY approved water source. Cleaning of lines 6 inches inside diameter or greater shall be accomplished using a flexible polyurethane foam pipeline cleaner, commonly known as a "Pig", manufactured for cleaning pressure lines. The pig shall be new and have a turning pattern, for use in water systems. It shall have a resilient peripheral surface that engages with the inner cylindrical wall of the pipe to maintain a sliding seal. The pig may have one or more sealing surfaces. This seal is maintained for propelling and must be abrasive resistant. B. When necessary, the pig shall also have abilities to scratch, scrape, plow and jet to assist in cleaning and flushing the pipe of debris. The pig shall rotate for longer wear and be able to reduce itself to a minimum of 65% of its original cross-sectional area. It must then be able to return to its original form while maintaining its seal and ability to clean. C. The pig shall have the ability to negotiate- fabricated mitered bends, short radius bends, short radius elbows, tees, crosses, and multi-dimensional pipe sizes and valves. D. Follow manufacturer's recommendations for use of "pig" in cleaning the line and conduct flushing and cleaning with CITY s representative in attendance. After passing through the pipeline the CITY s representative shall determine if subsequent pigging and flushing must be performed. E. The field pigging operation shall clearly establish that the piping is adequately cleaned. F. All pipe and fittings used to launch and receive the pigs shall be removed at no additional cost to the CITY. The cost for constructing the pig launch and receiving piping shall be included as part of the pipe installation cost unless a separate line item is found in the bid form. 3.3 WATER FOR FLUSHING & TESTING The CONTRACTOR shall procure and pay for the additional water required for potable water line disinfection and all other pressure pipe cleaning and disinfection system tests if the initial tests fail to pass.
