1 To: All Members of the INSOL International Academics Group Newsletter, February th Colloquium of the Academics Group San Francisco March 2015 Full programme confirmed I am delighted to announce that we have a full and diverse programme of speakers for our 2-day meeting in San Francisco. A total of 29 presentations will be made over the course of 10 technical sessions. The full programme is displayed below. Once again, the administrative arrangements for the colloquium are being handled by Tina McGorman of the INSOL International Office. Tina will be pleased to receive communications from those wishing to register for the conference, and can also provide advice concerning accommodation options. You are strongly advised to act quickly if you wish to join us. Ian Strang Founders Award Inaugural Winner Announced The inaugural competition for the Ian Strang Founders Award, established by INSOL International in memory of its first President, was held in The Award provides an opportunity for a postgraduate researcher in the field of insolvency and turnaround to submit a paper of not more than 10,000 words dealing with areas containing cross-border issues. The panel of judges consisted of Prof Ian Fletcher, University College London (Chair) together with Neil Cooper, Past President, INSOL International, Zolfo Cooper LLP; Prof Rosalind Mason, Queensland University of Technology; and Prof G. Ray Warner, St. John s University School of Law, New York. After careful deliberation the panel were agreed that the Award should be conferred on Jennifer L. L. Gant, PhD candidate of Nottingham Trent University, whose paper was entitled: Studies in Convergence? Post-Crisis Effects on Corporate Rescue and the Influence of Social Policy: The EU and the USA. The panel of judges, and the Academics Group more widely, extend their warm congratulations to Jennifer on her achievement in becoming the first winner of this Award, which will be held annually in future. Jennifer will be presenting her paper at the San Francisco Colloquium, and will also be recognised at the main Conference which she will be attending as a guest of INSOL International. The next competition for this Award will take place in Details will be published in INSOL World, and may also be obtained directly from the INSOL Secretariat. Those interested in entering, or who would like to encourage one of their postgraduate students to do so, should contact the Executive Director, Claire Broughton at the following address: Claire Broughton claireb@insol.ision.co.uk Future leadership of the Academics Group Barring unforeseen contingencies, this will be the last Newsletter which I shall circulate in my capacity as Chairman of the Academics Group. As is now well known, my successor will be
2 Professor Rosalind Mason, who will officially assume the mantle of office at the Business Meeting midway through our San Francisco programme. In the forthcoming issue of INSOL World I have contributed a brief account of the origins of the Academics Group at the Melbourne Congress in 1993, and of its steady development over the intervening 22 years. To all those who have supported the Group in its various endeavours during my time as Chairman I extend my firm and sincere thanks. It has been a privilege, but also a delight, to collaborate with so many good friends who share a common interest in international insolvency matters. I look forward to our continuing association in the future as the Group goes forward under the experienced and capable leadership of Ros Mason.
