1 P R E S S R E L E A S E Shortlist of Funds just Nominated for Feri EuroRating Awards 2013 Germany: Aberdeen and BlackRock share highest number of nominations, while is looking at five award chances Austria: Only domestic funds nominated in the category Austrian Equities, also dominating the Euro Bonds category, with no Austrian funds shortlisted for emerging countries and global equities. Switzerland: 13 local providers nominated, as funds by Swiss providers make strong showing in the categories Swiss Equities, CHF Bonds, and Strategy Funds Bad Homburg, 23 October 2012 Feri EuroRating Services AG just published those public funds in the German-speaking countries that have been nominated for the Feri EuroRating Awards Applying quantitative criteria, the five best funds each for Germany, Austria and Switzerland were selected in 16 categories. The winners in each category will be announced during a high-key award ceremony in Bad Homburg on 27 November 2012, following an extensive qualitative evaluation. Our EuroRating Awards are meant to guide investors in their decision-making process. In an ever more complex market environment, selecting truly sound investment funds has become particularly important, said Dr. Tobias Schmidt, CEO of Feri EuroRating Services AG. The nominated funds distinguished themselves in their respective categories not just in terms of performance, but also because of their particularly well-balanced risk/reward ratios. The selection of the award winners from among the nominees will use a qualitative analysis to evaluate the ways in which the investment processes are implemented and structured, and to rate the fund managers themselves. Germany For the German market, and are the providers with the highest number of nominations. Funds managed by German provider also received several nominations this year. Nominated products by German investment fund companies include mainly mixed funds and exchangetraded funds, apart from equity funds. Austria reaped a particularly high number of nominations in Austria, matching its award chances in Germany. The funds of domestic providers carried the day in the Austrian Equities category and will thus keep the award out of foreign hands. Having traditionally been strong in the Euro bond category, too, Austrian providers account for four out of five nominated funds this year. Then again, Austrian funds made a less prominent showing in the other categories. 1

2 Switzerland Like in the neighbouring countries, funds were the ones most frequently nominated in Switzerland. Among the domestic providers, a total of thirteen Swiss asset managers were among this year s nominees. Funds managed by the companies Pictet, Swisscanto and Vontobel scored three nominations each. Next in line are UBS Asset Management and Züricher Kantonalbank, each with two nominated funds. Matching Switzerland s rating outcome of the previous two years, funds of domestic providers are particularly strong in the CHF bond category. Indeed, all of the nominations here represent domestic players, which also made strong showing in the Strategy Fund Global Flexible category. Award Categories This year s award ceremony will cite eight equity fund categories, three bond or debenture fund categories, as well as a mixed fund or strategy fund category, while four extra categories will rate exchange-traded funds for the first time. Moreover, Feri will announce the nominees for the awards Fund Innovations and Asset Manager in the coming days. The Fund Innovations special award honours a particularly innovative fund concept, whereas the Asset Manager awards cite the finest investment companies as such. About Feri EuroRating Awards Unlike other citations, Feri bases the evaluation for the Feri EuroRating Awards not just on a quantitative analysis, but also takes qualitative criteria into account, including the experience and training of the fund managers, and the portfolio construction. The winners are determined in a two-step procedure: In the first stage, Feri nominates the five best funds in a given group of peers using quantitative criteria. Next, the nominees are subjected to a qualitative evaluation. It concentrates on the way in which the investment process is implemented and structured, and on the fund manager itself. The fund with the highest score will eventually take the Feri EuroRating Award. To qualify for the rating, contending funds need to have a minimum volume and be freely accessible to private investors. The winner of the special award for Fund Innovations is selected by an independent body of experts.
