1 Job Description Job title: Department/School: Academic Director Psychology Grade: 9 Location: University of Bath Campus Job purpose The post is an exciting opportunity for a Clinical Psychologist with an established record of research, clinical training and supervisory expertise to participate in the further development and running of a clinical psychology training programme and associated research centre at the University of Bath. Source and nature of management provided Course Director for the Doctoral Programme in Clinical Psychology, under the overall direction of the Head of Department of Psychology Staff management responsibility To manage the Academic Clinical Tutor(s) and Admissions Tutor. Career and Professional Development Activities To engage in knowledge transfer, continuous professional development, consultancy and other forms of external engagement, as appropriate. From time to time you may be asked to assist in the facilitation of CPD activities. This will form part of your substantive role and you will not receive additional payment for these activities. 2 Special conditions In order to sustain professional registration with the HPC, BABCP and BPS the appointee will be expected to undertake an appropriate level of clinical work external to their University contract which is 0.2 FT. Main duties and responsibilities To oversee the continued development and implementation of the academic content of the Bath Doctorate in Clinical Psychology. To be responsible for the academic management of the Clinical Psychology Programme. To contribute directly to the teaching, training and supervision and mentorship of trainees on the D.Clin.Psych. Programme and other courses within the Department as required. To contribute to the support, training and development of Clinical Supervisors. To undertake high quality clinically-relevant research leading to peer reviewed publications. To undertake their own research, including by obtaining external funding and supervise PhD students. To establish research collaborations within the University and/or with Clinical Psychologists in the region, including mentoring arrangements with less experienced researchers and D,Clin.Psy research projects. 1 Academic To be responsible for the academic management of the Clinical Psychology Programme working in collaboration with other course team members, other University staff and regional Clinical Psychologist. The postholder will have oversight of the academic programme of the D.Clin.Psy. course in order to maintain the highest standards consistent with HPC/BPS recognition of clinical psychology training. To ensure the provision of high quality integrated training appropriate to the needs and demands of modern health and social care services. To sit on/chair course committees and to represent the course regionally and nationally as appropriate. To contribute directly to the teaching, training, supervision and mentorship of trainees on the D.Clin.Psych. Programme and other courses within the Department as required. To contribute to the support, training and development of Clinical Supervisors. To undertake the duties of a University Director of Studies. Human Resources Page 2 09/01/2013
3 To be involved in the selection and admissions processes for entrants to the programme. 2 Research To undertake high quality clinically relevant research leading to peer reviewed publications in high quality internationally recognised journals appropriate to the subject area. To apply for and obtain external peer reviewed funding for own clinically relevant research whenever possible. Re-arrangement and reduction of other duties might be possible in the case of substantial funding requiring major time commitments by the postholder. To supervise and support clinical psychology trainees (and PhD students where appropriate) in undertaking doctoral level research under the guidance of the Research Tutor/Course Director. To establish research collaborations within the University and/or with Clinical Psychologists in the region, including mentoring arrangements with less experienced researchers in the University and NHS. To supervise PhD students. To make a contribution to the development of further continuing professional development opportunities. 3 Clinical To provide an expert clinical psychology service either in the new collaboration between the University and AWP Trust (South Western Cognitive and Behavioural Therapy Centre SWCBTC; provisional title only) or another appropriate clinical unit in AWP or other NHS trusts on the basis of 0.2 FT. Provide psychological consultation, training and supervision to other members of the multidisciplinary team in the relevant clinical unit as appropriate. Keep accurate records of clinical activities and ensure CPD is current as appropriate to that role. 4 General Any other duties appropriate to the grade as directed by the Course Director/Head of Department.
