1 What Kind of Student Can I Be? We serve many different kinds of students here at SPCC. Below you can find out more information about various programs that we offer to help students achieve their goals. Applied Science Programs for those students wanting to complete some College Level education whether Certificate, Diploma, or Associate s Degree and then join the work force. Career and College Promise Students programs for High School Students Health Program Student for students who are interested in pursuing one of our health degrees Special Credit for those students who just need a class or two Transfer Programs for those students wanting to start with SPCC, but ultimately transfer to a four year College or University. Career and College Promise Student The N.C. Career and College Promise (CCP) program is a jumpstart for earning a college degree. Tuition is free! Qualified students can earn college credit while still in high school. Students are dually enrolled in their high school and at South Piedmont Community College allowing them to receive both high school and college credit for courses taken through the program. College Transfer Pathways: We offer two transfer pathways that provide structured sets of general education courses. Upon completion of the Associate in Arts College Transfer Pathway or the Associate in Science College Transfer Pathway, students will be able to earn an Associate in Arts (AA) degree or an Associate in Science (AS) degree with less than 30 additional hours of study. You must have a weighted 3.0 grade point average and demonstrate college readiness on an approved placement test. Career and Technical Education Pathways (CTE): We have 26 different pathways in a wide range of subjects that can be applied toward an Associate of Applied Science degree. Many of these classes do not require test scores and if your GPA is not quite at the 3.0 level, you can still participate with permission from your principal. To get started, contact your child s guidance counselor. The counselor can provide information about your child s eligibility and coordinate the high school and college class schedules. If you have additional questions about CCP or South Piedmont Community College, please contact an Enrollment Recruiter. Download the Career and College Promise booklet for program information and course offerings. Additional information may be found online. Q: How do I apply to participate in the Career & College Promise program?
2 A: Students should first see their high school guidance counselor to apply for CCP. Applications for CCP will be submitted online at CFNC.org. Guidance Counselors will approve the CFNC application and once approved students can then apply to South Piedmont Community College to participate. Q: Are students who attend a high school outside of North Carolina but are NC residents allowed to participate in the CCP program? A: High school juniors and seniors who reside in North Carolina are eligible to participate in Career & College Promise. Q: What is the maximum number of college credits that a CCP student can take? A: There is no maximum number of college credits that a CCP student can take. All students must maintain a GPA of 2.0 or higher on college courses within a program of study and must continue to make progress towards high school graduation. For additional frequently asked questions visit us Special Credit Student A student may enroll as a special credit student without specifying a program of study. However, a special credit student who wants to graduate with a degree, certificate or diploma must meet all appropriate admission requirements before changing/declaring that program of study. A special credit student is not eligible for any type of financial assistance and must meet all course prerequisites prior to enrollment. 1. Complete the SPCC Application for Admissions a. You need to complete an online application for admissions 2. Submit official transcripts to show you have met any prerequisites for that course. 3. Complete the New Student Orientation online a. You are working through this now. Be sure to read over the sections and complete the questions in the Graduation section to receive credit for completion. *Special Credit is not financial aid eligible* Transfer Student Associates of Arts Students take general education coursework in the areas of humanities, fine arts, mathematics, science, and social and behavioral science. These general education courses provide a well-rounded education and a jump start on bachelor s degree coursework.
3 The Associate in Arts program offers the most flexibility in course selection for students to select courses tailored to their interests and their intended major. The College Transfer Program at South Piedmont parallels the freshman and sophomore years of a fouryear college or university degree. To earn an Associate in Art (AA) degree, an Associate in Science (AS) degree, or an Associate in Fine Arts (AFA) degree, students take General Education courses in the areas of humanities, fine arts, mathematics, natural sciences, social and behavioral sciences, and pre-major transfer courses. Associates of Arts class listing may be found online Associates of Science Students take general education coursework in the areas of humanities, fine arts, mathematics, science, and social and behavioral science. These general education courses provide a well-rounded education and a jump start on bachelor s degree coursework. The Associate in Science program emphasizes science and/or math courses for students intending to major in a 4-year program with a science and/or math focus. Comprehensive Articulation Agreements The N.C. Community College System (NCCCS) has Comprehensive Articulation Agreements governing transfer of credits with the University of North Carolina (a system of 16 public universities) and the N.C. Independent Colleges and Universities (NCICU). With an AA or AS degree, students may transfer with junior status to one of the 16 UNC institutions and many of the affiliates of NCICU. AFA degree students who transfer must meet the General Education requirements of the receiving institution. Both the Associates of Arts and Associates of Science degrees qualify for the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement.
