1 Mortuary Science Instructor North Orange County Community College District Position Number: CCF861 Location: Cypress College Department: CC Health Sciences Percentage of Employment: 100% Months of Employment: 10 Months/Year Work Schedule: Full Time, Tenure Track Job Description: Teach assigned lecture and laboratory courses in the Mortuary Science program in a manner consistent with the department's standards, accreditation standards, and with the content cited in the approved course outline and plan of instruction. Acquire/maintain education and skills necessary for competency to teach any course in Mortuary Science. Perform professional tasks related to the areas of assignment, in student advisement, curriculum design, evaluation, program review, advanced computer skills (including funeral service

2 software, learning management and course management systems), and other affairs of the department/division. Teach scheduled classes; supervise and evaluate students in theory and laboratory settings, including off-site externship, practicum, and work experience assignments; establish and maintain liaison and membership with professional in the funeral industry; and perform related duties as assigned. Participate in curriculum development and serve on department, division, college and district committees as necessary to maintain and improve the instructional program; participate in appropriate professional development activities. Participate in co-curricular activities, including planning, implementing, and teaching in special programs designed to support student success. Participate in the formulation of Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) and the Student Learning Outcomes assessment cycle. Maintain formal office and campus hours; participate in department and division meetings. Maintain current knowledge of instructional methods and new technologies pertinent to areas of assignment; learn and apply emerging technologies and advances (e.g., computer software applications) as necessary to perform duties in an efficient, organized and timely manner. Teach scheduled classes and perform related duties as assigned, including timely compliance with clerical and administrative responsibilities; comply with district, college and division policies in the performance of duties. Instruct and assist in the growth and success of a diverse population of students through careful preparation of course materials, effective teaching methodologies and informed critical feedback on assignments and discussions.

3 Work cooperatively with staff and students. Evening, weekend, hybrid and/or online assignments may be required as part of the regular contract. 4 Minimum Qualifications: Masters s degree or equivalent foreign degree AND two (2) years of professional experience directly related to the assignment; AND ALL OF THE FOLLOWING : Graduation from an institution of funeral service education accredited by the ABFSE. National Board Exam certification from the ICFSEB. Possession of a valid California funeral director s license or acquisition of license not later than August 19, 2016, as a condition of employment. Possession of a valid California embalmer s license or acquisition of license not later than August 19, 2016, as a condition of employment. (Minimum qualifications for instruction of upper division courses at the California Community Colleges are pending approval by Board of Governors) Desirable Qualifications: Teaching experience, preferably at the upper division/university level or with adult populations. Leadership experience and/or participation in community or professional organizations.

5 Licensed funeral service practitioner with recent mortuary, cemetery, and crematory experience. Ability to work effectively in a team-teaching environment. Ability to work in a fast-paced, ever-changing stressful environment while maintaining a professional demeanor. Ability to design alternative educational activities that develop different learning outcomes. Effective oral and written communication skills.
