Academic instruction takes place in a small, structured, nurturing setting. At the high school level, instruction is geared toward college prep with modifications made for students who have specific learning disabilities or who function below grade level. Elementary classes are small heavily staffed, and serve multiple grade levels. Our younger students' ability to function academically is more diverse and can range from remedial to grade level and above. Our students primary diagnosis is severe to profound cognitive disabilities, which may be accompanied by behavioral disorders, physical challenges and/or medical conditions. The services include 24 hour supervised residential care, instruction by licensed educators in academic, social and daily life skills (also supported by residential care staff), development of socially validated behavioral skills under the supervision of psychology staff specifically trained in behavior intervention techniques, physical, occupational and speech therapy as well as adaptive physical education, adapted design services, orientation/ mobility services and music therapy. Programs are individualized to meet the needs of the student and are psycho-educational in nature. The programs range through a continuum of functional academics to vocational education and preparation for semi-independent living.
