1 This form is intended to help you plan and organize your new online course. Start by identifying the purpose of the course. What are the most important take-aways that students should leave with to prepare them for college and career? Look at your course goals and determine what your specific learning objectives for each unit of study will be. Then, determine how you will assess whether students have the knowledge and/or skills you have specified. Next, you can decide what instructional materials, resources, and guided or independent practice will be most appropriate to help students learn and be successful. Finally, carefully plan the amount of time students spend actively working on tasks of an appropriate difficulty and make adjustments accordingly. Remember, for a 3-credit course based upon a 9-week term that works out to be 15 hours per week for 135 hours total. Whether you plan to develop the course on your own or whether you need more hands-on assistance from your Instructional Designer, the more thoroughly you can complete this planning guide, the more you will be prepared to include the instructional materials, strategies, and assessments into an exemplary course that is engaging for your students.
