2 1B4J GRANT BACKGROUND Initiated in response to the Baltimore Uprising (April 2015) Baltimore, MD is one of seven cities selected nationally to receive a two-year grant award Partnership with the Baltimore City Mayor s Office of Employment Development (MOED) and Maryland s Department of Labor, Licensing and regulation (DLLR) $5 million dollar total investment by the U.S. Department of Labor GRANT PURPOSE: Explore innovative strategies for re-engaging disconnected youth and young adult populations (age 29) in highly distressed communities Deliver high quality skills training to targeted populations and access to career placement in high-growth industry sectors

4 TRAINING Administrative Assistant Certified Medical Administrative Assistant GRANT FOCUS 12 month grant Will target people who have barriers to employment and live in distressed neighborhoods in Baltimore city Funding will support 55 people (3) Cohorts of 15 GRANT GOAL 75% participant training completion rate and 80% job placement rate Placement into entry-level administrative positons with leading anchor institutions, paying at least $11 an hour

5 PARTNERS Baltimore Integration Partnership Played key role played a key role in bringing anchor institutions into this program and is partially matching the grant from MOED to allow the effort to expand its training. Baltimore Integration Partnership (BIP) is a collective impact initiative focused on economic inclusion, includes a total of 11 higher educational institutions and hospitals that are moving forward local hiring, purchasing, and community development activities to create employment opportunities for Baltimore City residents.

7 PARTNERS Several Community-Based Organizations will work with Humanim to identify and assist in recruiting participants who face barriers to employment and live in distressed communities. 8 PARTICIPANT CRITERIA Baltimore City Resident, Ages 18-29, with barriers to employment and living in a distressed neighborhood High School Diploma or GED (Must be documented) Minimum 10 th grade Reading & 8 th grade Math as determined by TABE Ability to attend training Monday-Thursday from 9am-3pm Ability to pass a drug screen Background check consistent with Anchor Institutions hiring practices for targeted positions Basic computer Skills Strong communication skills (written and oral)

9 TRAINING CURRICULUM Participants will be trained in: Microsoft Office and Google Documents: Digit All Systems Office administrative skills: Keller Professional Medical front office: Catonsville Community College of Baltimore County Soft skills and financial literacy: Humanim Participants will receive two of three nationally recognized certifications: Microsoft Office Specialist Certified Medical Administrative Assistant Professional Administrative Certificate of Excellence (PACE)

10 TRAINING CURRICULUM ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT TRAINING (Cohorts 1 & 3 ) Humanim Soft Skills Training: 2 weeks Microsoft Office Specialist Training: 2 Weeks Administrative Assistant Training: 3 weeks Administrative Assistant Internship: 1-2 weeks TOTAL TRAINING: 8 weeks CERTIFIED MEDICAL ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT (Cohort 2) Humanim Soft Skills Training: 2 weeks Microsoft Office Specialist Training: 2 Weeks Certified Medical Administrative Assistant Training: 7 weeks Administrative Assistant Internship: 1-2 weeks TOTAL TRAINING: 12 weeks
