Eastern Standard Time lmclendon@naepdc.org NAEPDC News, Views, and Clues May 21, 2012 Technology Literacy Conference Horry County Schools Adult & Community Education presents TLC at the Beach A Practical Approach to Integrating Technology into Literacy Teaching and Learning March 13-16, 2013 Myrtle Beach, South Carolina Keynote Speakers Dr. Milton Chen is senior fellow and executive director, emeritus at The George Lucas Educational Foundation (GLEF), a non profit operating foundation in the San Francisco Bay Area that utilizes its multimedia website, Edutopia.org, and documentary films to communicate a new vision for 21st Century schools. Dr. Deborah Delisle (invited),assistant Secretary for the U.S. Office of Elementary and Secondary Education, served as the State Superintendent of Public Instruction for the Ohio Department of Education from 2008 to 2011, where e school news named her a 2008 Tech Savvy Superintendent. Dr. Gerrita Postlewait works as a consultant for the Council of
2 Page 2 of 6 Chief State School Officers national Innovation Lab Network. She recently completed a term on the SC Board of Education, serving as president of the State Board during She has been employed as Chief K 2 Officer for the Stupski Foundation in San Francisco; prior to that, she completed 10 years as superintendent for Horry County Schools. Call for Proposals TLC at the Beach is designed to present a practical approach to integrating technology into literacy teaching and learning. Conference participants will include representatives from technology, adult, family, K-12, workplace, health and financial literacy, as well as English as a Second Language instruction. Keynote speakers and leaders of breakout sessions will present current research and best practices that are currently in place to assure that teachers and students are prepared and competitive in the 21 st Century. Participants will choose among 40 breakout sessions, 3 renowned keynote speakers, a working roundtable luncheon and evening reception, and a plethora of vendors who specialize in integrating technology into the literacy curriculum. Come enjoy the beautiful ocean views and warm weather at Myrtle Beach while you learn the latest in technology and teaching. Presentation Formats: Panel (60 minutes) Panel presentations involve three or more individuals who present different perspectives on a common theme or topic. The proposal should describe the common theme/topic and the major points of discussion. The proposal should also describe how each panelist contributes a different perspective to the session. Please note if this panel could be repeated more than once. Workshare Presentation (60 minutes) Workshare sessions provide an opportunity to share professional work products, effective practices, innovative applications, and creative solutions that are not ready to be presented as a paper. Perfect for Vendors! A proposal should include a description of the topic and/or product and its applicability to other institutions or programs. Please note if this presentation could be repeated more than once Workshops (60 minutes) Workshops provide the opportunity for in depth discussion and instruction on a single topic. Demonstrations, exercises, group activities, and other methods of experiential learning are appropriate and desirable. Proposals should outline the specific objectives of the workshop, the intended audience (novice or experienced researchers, prerequisite knowledge/skills, etc.), the instructional techniques, and the qualifications of the instructor(s). Although some editing may occur, most abstracts of

Please also note the intended audience. The primary presenters will be notified beginning November 28, 2012 about the status of their proposals.
