1 LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM OVERVIEW Assuring a dedicated and experienced set of members to assume positions of leadership in the Society has been an ongoing goal of the ASNC Board of Directors. To achieve this goal, the ASNC Leadership Development Program was established to identify and train ASNC members for positions of leadership in ASNC. A position of leadership is understood to be a member of the Board of Directors, a chair of an ASNC committee, subcommittee, or writing group, or an important position in an organization that often works with ASNC (e.g., NRC, NIH, CBNC, ICANL, etc.). The program selects participants through an application process. As part of the application process, candidates will select a leadership track in which to concentrate their volunteer efforts. A description of each track is listed below: Research/Education leadership track participants will be mentored by an advanced clinician educator, investigator, or a program faculty member and will be trained in skills such as manuscript submission/review, question writing, and didactic instruction. These individuals will also participate in a specific faculty development focused course wherein participants will learn speaking and presentation skills, needs assessment, formative assessment question writing, conflicts of interest policy, and the fundamentals of quality improvement. Advocacy leadership track participants will be mentored by a health policy committee member and will be introduced to legislative advocacy, regulatory processes, and billing and coding issues. Clinical Quality leadership track participants will be mentored by a senior leader from an officebased practice in order to learn how to manage clinical teams, engage in quality improvement within their institution or practice setting, use performance data to track patient outcomes. These graduates will be instrumental in helping ASNC develop resources and tools for physicians in practice, including the fundamentals of quality improvement, lab accreditation and assessment resources, and patient care information materials. Technologist leadership track participants will be mentored by a technologist and will contribute to programs specific to ASNC s technologist members, including the Nuclear Cardiology for the Technologist program, the Technical track at the Annual Scientific Session, online educational resources, and quality improvement programs. Masters leadership track participants will be mentored by an ASNC Board member or Committee chair and will receive accelerated training in one of the areas identified above to enable accelerated participation in high profile ASNC committees and projects. This track is reserved for participants who have more than 10 years post-fellowship experience. The ASNC Leadership Development program is a three-year mentoring program. There will be an annual review of all participants to confirm active participants and suggest changes, as necessary. The Leadership Development Program Administrative Committee and a member of the ASNC staff will oversee the program. Selected participants will learn about the organization and structure of ASNC through hands-on projects and service on an ASNC committee.
