10 Sunshine Coast Grammar B.Y.O.D. Information Who is Secure Access? Secure Access is a Sunshine Coast Technology Provider that has been involved with Schools for the last 13 Years. They are also an Accredited Microsoft Gold Partner, Apple Consultants Network Partner and Queensland Government Education Purchasing Approved. Secure Access will be providing the Supply of the Mac Equipment for the BYOD Program, and handing the paperwork on behalf Sunshine Coast Grammar. How is the Unit Supplied? The unit will be provided in sealed boxes from Apple. Any extra accessories will also be shipped in their original package. The Students will setup the device and install accessories themselves. If support is required during the setup the unit is covered by AppleCare as detailed below. Secure Access will only be supplying the device. If the Unit is has a Fault? If the unit has a manufacturing fault, that is the device does not work based on hardware error the unit is covered by AppleCare as detailed below. Please contact apple care and they will confirm the fault and let you know the closest repair center to take your device to. Please be aware the student will be without a device during the repair time. If the Unit is has been Broken? If the unit has Accidental Damage this is subject to the terms and conditions of the policy supplied by The Warranty Group. Supplied with your device will be contact details on how to seek assistance with Accidental Damage. How do I get my Items? Collect from Secure Access s Maroochydore Office at 102 Wises Road between the hours of 8:30am to 5:00pm- Monday to Friday. What s the ordering process? Complete the attached order form and send to Secure Access via or Fax. From here Secure Access will supply a formalised quote to your nominated address with a copy of the Policy Documents should you have selected their Accidental Insurance Policy. Once a signed copy of these documents are returned, your device will be ordered, and you will be notified within 2 working days of ETA of your equipment.

The AppleCare Protection Plan for Mac or Apple Display provides up to three years of expert telephone technical support and additional hardware service options from Apple. For a full list of current details please refer to Are students required to bring in a personally owned device, or is this optional? Students are required to bring in a personally owned device each day in the same way that they are required to bring other learning support materials like textbooks, pencils, notebooks, etc. It is not optional. Who is paying for the devices? The devices will be purchased and owned by families. Are students expected to use the devices at both school and home? Yes. One of the goals of BYOD is ubiquitous and continuous access as a way to build information literacy. This means access to the learning tools on a device at home and school. Some homework assignments will require students to use a digital device, while other homework assignments will not. Are there any recommended and required accessories? An extended warranty is strongly recommended. We recommend Accidental Damage Protection An external hard drive to backing up files is recommended (Learning to perform regular backups and how to restore from a backup are very important skills). A protective case/sleeve is required. It is also a good idea to use a backpack that has an internal, padded sleeve for protecting the device. A headset or earbuds (for private listening) are required.

12 May students install software on their devices? Yes. If students have administrative rights to their devices they may install their own applications, provided that such applications do not violate the school's acceptable use policy. We always recommend running software downloads and updates at home as a way to prevent network congestion and slowdowns. What happens if a digital device is lost or stolen? Theft of devices is a legitimate concern. They are small, expensive, and easy to resell. We suggest that each family check to see if their homeowners or renters insurance will cover the theft of a digital device. It is also a good idea to investigate accidental insurance, in case of drops or slips. If a digital device is stolen, report it to the school immediately and file a report with your local law enforcement agency. Software is available to help law enforcement officials track the whereabouts of a digital device when it connects to the Internet. You are free to install such software at your own expense. What happens if a digital device breaks? We recommend that students purchase an extended warranty for their device at the time of purchase. Broken digital devices should be brought to the Tech Department, where an initial diagnosis will be performed. If the problem can be easily fixed within 15 minutes, the Tech Department will do so. If not, students will be provided with a loaner, and it is up to the student to have the device repaired as soon as possible. Students will need to return loaners within two weeks. What if a student s device battery is out of power? Students are expected to come to school each day with their devices fully charged. If there is a need to connect a device to a charger during class, most classrooms will be equipped with power strips for students to use if their battery is running low, but a few classrooms and spaces on campus do not have plentiful outlets and power strips for charging. Students are expected to use their devices in a way that conserves power so that they are available for use during classes. Students should be sure to charge devices at regular intervals as needed.. Are students required to back up their devices? It is critical that students have a backup of computer data. For this reason, we recommend that students purchase an external hard drive at the same time the device is acquired. Backing up files daily is ideal, but weekly is acceptable. Beyond that, you run the risk of significant data loss.
