6 MOUNTAIN WEST The membership has spoken. The Metro Denver Dental Society is taking this decision to create a dental CE institute very seriously. This task has been part of our applied strategic plan since We have regularly polled our membership on their wants and needs regarding continuing education. Below is a cross-sampling of data collected over the last six years from our members Member Continuing Education Survey (14% response rate) [ ] 2010 Metro Denver Dental Society Continuing Education Survey (15% response rate) Question: Please comment on why you did or did not attend MDDS course(s) and/or event(s) in the past year: 2011 Member Survey (25% response rate) No classes I was interested in would be more than happy to attend a useful clinical course. In the past; have gone to more than just one course in a year. Keep offering, Thanks Need more hands-on classes I enjoy the fellowship and learning opportunities both clinical and non-clinical Member Survey (25% response rate) Really enjoyed sleep apnea all-day CE. Need similar high-quality, high-science CE maybe osteonecrosis update; review of medical conditions and management (diabetes, HTN, common medications); emergency patient management (syncope, MI, etc.).
7 2012 MDDS Market Research Report In 2012 the Metro Denver Dental Society commisioned a comprehensive marketing research report from Resolution Research & Marketing, Inc. This report included a survey, focus group and telephone interviews and was distributed to member and non-member dentists of the metro Denver area. It was commissioned to help guide the formation of our applied strategic plan, and in particular, the implementation of a dental CE institute. The data below was garnered from the CE institute portion of that report. The response rate was 15%. When members were presented with the concept of a new MDDS CE Institute to be built near downtown, 3 in 5 report that it would increase the number of CE classes they would take from MDDS. About one half agree that it is important for MDDS to fund and support a CE Institute. The primary benefits are the hands-on and technology-focused learning opportunities. Importance of Hands-On CE Institute Most Appealing Features/Benefits Impact on CE Classes Taken at MDDS Likelyhood of Attending Classed if Offered by MDDS Rank of Importance of MDDS Offerings Additional Recommendations for MDDS (Comments) CE courses for staff (courses to improve phone skills, billing, etc. for front desk, EDDA courses) more CE courses for marketing, practice management sessions and involve more colleagues online by actively updating websites and its contents more CE and more outreach to non contributing dentists study clubs educational classes right now just economical continuing ed opportunities series lectures that encourage the same group of dentists to get together throughout the year. Good networking and higher quality education lectures that build on previous lectures offer courses for staff members in customer service access including hygienists, assistants, dentists and front office staff management training more CE courses CE Institute is a great idea. Also would like MDDS to explore the possibility of creating a health insurance plan for its members more CE courses more CE classes for clinical use broad spectrum of affordable CE continue with the downtown center more networking and more hands-on courses more specialized CE events on a smaller level good business continuing education provide CE for its members CE is the most important, both clinical and business especially series of courses that build on themselves not just single sessions preview sessions on newer technology; web based education for consumers; more study club like offerings business classes the CE institute is huge also a bigger social media presence. More classes/ce towards marketing and business Conclusions from the market research report: The exercise results highlight quality CE and the Rocky Mountain Dental Convention as the most important benefits of MDDS. This was true for both members and non-members. Overall, the planned education center was seen as favorable, particularly for the hands-on learning opportunities. Stressing the local availability should be a large advantage, although some suggested possibly co-sponsoring with other large national organizations. Priorities should be CE, the convention and industry news and information as supported by both rankings and comments.
