1 Welcome and Thank You! My goal for this ebook is to provide a CV example that I never received. There were no samples to review when I was a P3-P4. I attended a Career building seminar at my college. They gave a lot of great ideas for my CV and cover letters. But it was just THEORY. That s why I want to give you CV that I used for my PGY1 applications I was naïve when I made this CV. I don t recommend you follow my entire format for this process. As I review this CV now, I shutter at my mistakes. Oh, on a side note, I placed blue boxes over people s names for privacy reasons. Couple of quick rules: 1 My CV is NOT amazing Seriously, my first two letters make me cringe. I didn t bullet point my accomplishments. My sentences are too long and I didn t focused enough on aiming to convince the reader that I would match their needs. AND I did not accomplish great feats. No research experience. BUT, I still achieved a PGY1 residency. 2 I break a few rules that I have now for CV One rule I have now is to always say a follow up date at the bottom of a Cover Letter. This means that I say something like, I will contact you via phone to determine my application status. I have great reasons why I do this, but more on that another day. I have grammar and spelling errors. This is a definite FAIL. However, that s my personality. I don t take my grammar seriously. I usually have multiple people review before submitting. Stay tuned to my newsletter to learn of my CV rules J This means that this example is just that, an example. It should not dictate everything about your CV. I provide CV reviews Maybe you re thinking, What does this guy know about CVs? His sucks! He doesn t even spell check. Well, that was true back then. Now, I ve interviewed over 50 residency candidates (mock and real interviews). I reviewed over 100 residency applications + CVs through my residency program and ASHP. I know what works and what doesn t. Simply reply to one of my newsletter s and I will contact you if you would be interested in a review of your CV.
