8 HEO/STAR COMPUTER TRAINING This class is designed for nurses and unit secretaries who work on inpatient units and enter orders into the Horizon Expert Order (HEO) system. Peri-Op (ENDO, Day Surgery, OR, PACU), and ED nurses are EXEMPT from this training. It includes information on navigating the HEO system, placing and reviewing orders, and deleting and discontinuing orders. STAR portion will include transferring and discharging patients, as well as ordering patient supplies through Central Supply. 12 BLS INSTRUCTOR COURSE This course is designed for anyone interested in becoming a BLS Instructor. You will be required to teach at least two courses annually. BLS Instructors teach staff and community classes for CPR, AED, Adult First Aid, and Pediatric First Aid. The American Heart Association strongly promotes knowledge and proficiency in BLS, ACLS, and PALS and has developed instructional materials for this purpose. Use of these materials in an educational course does not represent course sponsorship by the American Heart Association. Any fees charged for such a course, except for a portion of the fees needed for AHA course material, do not represent income to the Association. 13 PEDIATRIC ADVANCED LIFE SUPPORT (PALS) PALS is an American Heart Association course designed to prepare RN s, Nurse Practitioners, paramedics, physicians and physician s assistants in pediatric emergencies. Main objectives of this course are to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to efficiently evaluate and effectively manage seriously ill infants and children. The American Heart Association strongly promotes knowledge and proficiency in BLS, ACLS, and PALS and has developed instructional materials for this purpose. Use of these materials in an educational course does not represent course sponsorship by the American Heart Association. Any fees charged for such a course, except for a portion of the fees needed for AHA course material, do not represent income to the Association. 14 PALS INSTRUCTOR COURSE This course is designed for PALS providers who are interested in becoming a PALS Instructor. You will be required to teach at least two courses annually. PALS Instructors will test students in the PALS skills stations; Testing includes competency testing of IV skill and Respiratory interventions, Cardiac, Shock and Respiratory Mega codes and a CPR station. The American Heart Association strongly promotes knowledge and proficiency in BLS, ACLS, and PALS and has developed instructional materials for this purpose. ACLS Instructors will provide mentoring and coaching with the ACLS skill stations at Bayhealth and test students knowledge and performance of an ACLS mega code. Must be proficient with manikin use. 16 INTRODUCTION TO BASIC RHYTHM RECOGNITION This 8 hour course is designed for the student who needs to have an introduction to Basic Cardiac Rhythm interpretation to prepare for the Basic Rhythm Class. This class is a required prerequisite for the CNA and Allied Healthcare professional participant to take prior to taking Basic Rhythm. Course material includes Basic Anatomy and Physiology of the heart, Basic Conduction, Properties of the EKG, and a systematic approach to EKG interpretation. Class will cover an introduction to the interpretation of several rhythm abnormalities. 17 BASIC RHYTHM RECOGNITION (BRR) This class is designed for healthcare workers that encounter patients on cardiac monitors. Entry level anatomy and physiology of the heart, systematic approach to ventricular rhythms are given. Pre-course work prior to class and self-study between sessions is vital. A final evaluation is given on day three. 18 12-LEAD EKG This course is designed to provide basic information about 12 Lead EKG interpretations. The course objectives are designed to allow course participants to: Differentiate limb leads and augmented leads; distinguish and discuss precordial leads; determine axis from an EKG tracing; Identify bundle branch blocks and heartblocks on an EKG tracing; discuss coronary artery anatomy and perfusion; identify ischemia, injury and infarction on a EKG tracing; identify specific types of MI from an EKG tracing; apply knowledge to interpret 12 lead EKGs; and apply knowledge to pass post test with a grade of 80%. 19 DISPENSING HIGH RISK MEDICATIONS Every nurse is aware that even the most effective medication can have lethal effects if not administered properly. It is our duty and responsibility as professionals in the nursing field to ensure health care quality and patient safety. Course includes: Basics of Proper Medication Administration Medications that Create the Most Variances in the Acute Care Setting 2013 Patient Safety Goals Improve the Safety of Using High Alert/Risk Medications This four-hour mini-curriculum includes two courses: Dispensing High Risk Medications Part I and Dispensing High Risk Medications Part II. The first course is a pre-test and two online courses. The second course is a 2-hour classroom presentation, post-test and curriculum evaluation. Participants must complete Part I prior to registering for the Part II classroom session. After the classroom activity, participants must complete the post-test and curriculum evaluation in order to receive the contact hours. No students will be admitted to the Part II classroom activity without a certificate of completion for Part I. 20 CONTINUOUS RENAL REPLACEMENT THERAPY (CRRT) Nurses who work in Critical Care and want to learn more about CRRT should take this class. Dialysis concepts, as well as hands-on work with the CRRT Diapact System, will be provided. Course Recommendation: Dates/Locations: RN s, LPN s, and allied healthcare personnel who care for patients on CRRT We strongly recommend that nurses who work in Critical Care take this course every 2 years. 21 CRISIS PREVENTION INTERVENTION (CPI) In this class you will learn the actions and tactics needed to safely manage a Code Gray. Employees will learn the basic elements of violent behavior, techniques to address behavior that has the potential to escalate into violent situations, and also physical applications which provide Care, Welfare, Safety and Security to all those involved. Dates/Locations: Contact Hours: -Staff that work with high risk people who may exhibit behaviors such as anger, frustration, confusion and other disruptive behaviors. -Staff who work in the Emergency Department, Critical Care, Med- Surg, Security, Plant Operations and Patient Sitters -Supervisors, Managers, Clinical Coordinators, Nurses, and Unit Secretaries should attend. -Any other staff interested in learning how to effectively manage a Code Gray is welcome to attend after receiving approval from their manager. 25 TOBACCO CESSATION This Bayhealth Medical Center program has been designed by colleagues in various departments, many of whom were smokers or exposed to those who used tobacco products. The goal of this program is to be there for you when you need it the most, family taking care of family. You will have the support of facilitators, Pharmacists, and our Medical Directors. Prescribed therapies may be part of your personalized tobacco cessation plan. Quit day is not until the fourth week of the program! A Tobacco Relapse Prevention Support Group is available bimonthly following completion of the 7-week classes to network with others who have quit using tobacco cessation products.
