12 Long-Term Energy Plan Ontario s updated Long-Term Energy Plan, is the province s blueprint for a safe, clean, reliable and affordable energy future. The plan balances five principles to guide decisionmaking: 1. cost effectiveness 2. reliability 3. clean energy 4. community engagement 5. an emphasis on conservation and demand management before building new generation
13 Ontario s Long-Term Energy Plan: A Balanced Electricity System A culture of Conservation First reduces our demand for electricity. A system that protects the consumer by making costeffective decisions AND the best use of our existing electricity system. A reliable and flexible electricity system so we can build what we need when and where we need it in the future. Engaged Ontarians, including First Nations and Métis communities, contribution to local energy solutions. A balanced mix of clean energy sources, including nuclear, hydro, natural gas, wind and solar power that meets our demand.
14 Putting Conservation First Conservation is the cleanest and most cost-effective energy resource, and offers consumers a way to reduce their electricity bills. Ministry of Energy has refreshed the Conservation and Demand Management (CDM) programs Set CDM targets at a provincial level 7,000 GWh reduction by 2020 New Savings Targets are almost double what they were for some LDC s with less $$ to deliver
15 Veridian s Targets Target: 29 MW hit 55% of target 117 GWh hit 91% of target Target: 152 GWh 30% increase!! How will we reach our 2020 target by helping our customers conserve electricity!
