Norwest Elementary Welcomes Familiar Faces as New Leadership Elementary (PK 3rd) 7:50 a.m. 2:50 p.m. Coggin (4 ) 8:00 a.m. 3:00 p.m. Intermediate (5 & 6 ) 8:00 a.m. 3:05 p.m. Middle School (7 & 8) 8:09 a.m. 3:40 p.m. High School (9 12 ) 8:15 a.m. 3:42 p.m. Allison Norcutt will join e Norwest Elementary administration as e Assistant Principal, moving from her previous teaching position at Brownwood Middle School. Christine Young Allison Norcutt Jeanette Lancaster New and returning students, along wi Norwest Elementary teachers and staff, will bring in e new school year welcoming a new principal, assistant principal and school counselor. Christine Young will serve as e new Norwest Elementary principal, and will be a familiar face to e students and staff at e school, having previously worked for 7 years as e school s counselor. Young has been wi Brownwood ISD for a total of 9 years, prior to which she taught in California and in Lubbock, Texas. Young holds a bachelor s degree from Lubbock Christian University, a master s degree from Sul Ross University and a Principal s Certificate from San Angelo State University. I m excited about e new school year at Norwest Elementary, said Young. We have a couple of new faces on campus: Mrs. Norcutt, as assistant principal, and Mrs. Lancaster, as our new counselor. I have had e privilege of working wi e teachers and staff at Norwest for awhile, and I have to say, we have some of e best teachers and staff around. I m looking forward to a great year. Norcutt has worked in e district since 2001, and worked at oer districts for 6 years prior to at. She holds a bachelor s degree from UT San Antonio and a master s degree in Educational Leadership from UT Tyler. Wi ree children at all attend school in Brownwood ISD, Norcutt and her family are excited about her new position. My husband, Brian, and I are looking forward to my new role as Assistant Principal at Norwest Elementary, said Norcutt. Jeanette Lancaster is welcomed as e School Counselor, following Young s transition to principal. Lancaster, comes to e school from Woodland Heights Elementary, where she worked for a year as a 3rd grade teacher. Prior to her relocation to Brownwood, Lancaster served as an elementary teacher for 3 years in Raton, NM, and for 9 years in Lubbock, TX. After earning her master s degree in School Counseling, Lancaster worked for 2 years as an elementary counselor at Lubbock ISD, where she also provided services as bo a crisis counselor and family counselor. Lancaster also holds a master s degree in Education Administration and is finishing e requirements to be a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). I'm really looking forward to being a counselor again is year, said Lancaster. I'm very honored to be a part of e Norwest family.

Students in grades K-6 can benefit from utilizing classroom computers, laptops, or ipads. All students in grades 7-12 will continue to have a MacBook assigned to em for use at school and home. The 11-inch MacBook Air will once again be issued to e incoming Freshmen. Internet Safety The safety of our children is important and we want eir education to take place in a safe and friendly environment. Wi e integration of technology, it is critical for students, staff, and parents to be aware of potential reats at are on e World Wide Web. We encourage everyone to not only look over e district policies, but to also visit ese sites for more information on how to stay safe on e Internet: CTE Program he age-old question asked by students in e classroom, Why do we need to know T is? is answered in our Career and Technical Education (CTE) classes. BISD offers AchieveTexas paways, or career majors, in Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources; Architecture and Construction, Transportation, Distribution and Logistics; Business, Management, Administration, Finance, Marketing, and Sales; Education and Training, Human services, Hospitality and Tourism; Fine Arts, Audio Visual Technology, Communications; Heal Science Technology; Law, Public Safety, Corrections and Security; and Manufacturing and Maintenance. Starting wi introductory courses in middle school, each paway is a road map for students to help em work towards graduation success and life after high school wheer at includes college, trade school, military, or e workforce. Throughout eir 4 years in high school, students may choose a sequence of courses related to one of ese majors and finish eir senior year wi certification in such areas as ServeSafe certification; Final Cut Pro; Nurse Aid, Pharmacy Technician, Cosmetologist, Microsoft Office, and many more. Each of ese paways was designed by community input wi e help of industry leaders in Brownwood and e surrounding areas. Not only are our students challenged by high expectations in e CTE classroom, but ey are also given e chance to show off eir skills by participating in student leadership organization competitions related to eir paways. Several of our students have been very successful, even competing on e national level and earning several district and state titles as well. These organizations include FFA; SkillsUSA; Family, Career, & Community Leaders of America (FCCLA), DECA; and Heal Occupations Students of America (HOSA). Some students go to college, but ALL students go to work. CTE courses are designed to enhance what students learn in eir core academic courses and provide a strong foundation for students to take e next step after graduation, wheer at is college and/or e workforce. Our students futures are our top priority at BISD. We know at ose futures will be full of opportunities at are only limited by each child s talents and dreams. Wi strong community support and excellent educators, BISD has made Brownwood feel like home in more ways an one. For Parents and Students ual credit courses are a great way to finish off your high school career and start D your college education at e same time! Dual credit courses are offered to BHS juniors and seniors starting e summer before eir junior year. Howard Payne University, Ranger College, and Texas State Technical College all offer courses at a reduced cost, but each college has different tuition rates, so check wi your high school counselor for e current cost. Students may take two academic courses per semester plus additional TSTC dual credit courses if ey meet e enrollment requirements. Things to Remember for Your Pre-College Experience: Dual credit classes are college credit courses at also count for high school credit, not high school courses at count for college credit. Students are expected to behave and perform at college-level standards. College attendance policies apply regarding absences and missing assignments, and extra-curricular absences or absences for heal reasons may not follow e same guidelines as e high school. Carefully consider bo e number and subject areas for dual credit courses in a way at will balance demands on student time, energy, and activities. Communication is KEY! College professors expect communication to take place between emselves and e student, not e parent. They are more an willing to help e student wi assignments when ey know a student will miss a class, but ey must know ahead of time so arrangements can be made. They expect assignments to be turned in e day ey are due or earlier, not when e student returns no matter e reason. Work wi oer students in study groups to prepare for tests and help each oer wi questions on homework, etc. Take advantage of all tutorial opportunities if you are struggling in a dual credit course. HPU offers night-time and individually scheduled tutorial assistance free of charge to HPU students. This is an EXCELLENT resource but only if you use it!
