1 COMMIT Kick-off 20 & 21 March 2012 The COMMIT Story We are all standing at the beginning of the COMMIT story. Together we are going to write this story.
2 PRACTICAL INFORMATION/ The working language is English. Check-in will take place from onwards. In the meantime, luggage can be stored in a separate room (not guarded) or in a locker (which requires a 2 deposit). In the evening, after dinner, there is the possibility to have drinks in the bar of the hotel (at own expense). There is free wireless internet at the reception and lobby area. If you want to make use of internet throughout the whole building, vouchers can be purchased at the reception ( for 24 hours). You can enjoy the indoor swimming pool for free. 2

Collaboration between projects is important for the success of COMMIT. Individual excellence in the projects will be challenged to contribute ideas for tangible results requiring collaborating projects. The challenge is to produce two new ideas per team/table for a golden demonstrator that could not be produced by a single project alone. 7

How do you getyour message across in an engaging and compelling way. The participants themselves will create storyboards of the projects they are working on, making this masterclass a practical hands-on experience. Onno van der Veen, Zeeno 30 persons Room Oxford 16 Stretching the mold: new approaches to dissemination. There s more to dissemination than papers & academic conferences. Society has changed immensely, and communication with it. You can reach new, larger audiences and increase the quality of your research by working with the community, using tools readily at hand. This workshop will stretch your options by giving some examples and challenge you to apply them to your own work. Speechen is een kunst, en een zaal toespreken en regelmatig applaus krijgen helemaal. De oude Grieken ontwikkelden en beheersten deze kunst en onderzoeker Prof. Dr. Max Atkinson bewees wetenschappelijk dat het werkt. We want to improve the web infrastructure by separating web application logic from per-user data storage: Users should be able to use web services they love but keep their life stored in one place they control a»home folder for the web«. We also believe that freedom on the web is not achieved by freely licensed web applications running on servers you can t control. Those who consider to think about the internet technology platform see it as a mostly that rock solid public perception of the internet lies a growing maze of constantly evolving standards brought to life by a hardworking community of many thousands of researchers and developers. Progress is not just about a little faster, cheaper, easier versions of whatever the current options are - it is about reshaping the fabric of modern communication. The way internet technology morphs itself continuously has a vast impact on how we (can and may) behave. 12
