6 State Assessment Program History Colorado Student Assessment Program (CSAP) o Measured student learning of the Colorado Model Content Standards (math, reading, writing & science) Transitional Colorado Assessment Program (TCAP) o Transitional assessment old standards to new TCAP & Colorado Measures of Academic Success o TCAP continues for reading, writing and math o First year of new Colorado- developed social studies and science assessments (part of the state s new Colorado Measures of Academic Success) Colorado Measures of Academic Success (CMAS) o First year of new PARCC- developed English language arts and mathematics assessments o Second year of Colorado- developed social studies and science assessments

11 Advances in Assessment Demanded by the Shifts Shift #1 Focus: The PARCC assessments will focus strongly where the Standards focus Advance: 70% or more on the major work in grades 3-8. Focus allows for a variety of problem types to get at concept in multiple ways. Students will have more time to master concepts at a deeper level.

12 Advances in Assessment Demanded by the Shifts Shift #2 - Coherence: Think across grades, and link to major topics within grades Advance: Integrative tasks draw on multiple standards to ensure students are making important connections. The Standards are not treated as a checklist.
