1 POSITION DESCRIPTION Date 31 January 2014 Position Title Team Leader Talking Realities Organisation UnitingCare West Reports to Manager Youth Education, Training & Employment Support Services Class Level E SECTION 1 PURPOSE OF THIS JOB: This position is responsible for the development of training programs in addition to the delivery of the Talking Realities young parenting program, including the recruitment and selection of trainees, as well as maintaining a high standard of presentations and customer service to schools. The Team Leader is also responsible for supporting the personal development of trainees and peer educators to prepare them for employment beyond the program. Program Coordination 2. Staff and Peer Educator Support 3. Administration This position description contains the key tasks and associated performance indicators for this position. The list of key tasks is not intended to be complete. Other tasks will be assigned from time to time to meet the needs of the organisation. 1
2 KRA 1: Program Coordination Coordinate and deliver the training peer for the Talking Realities program as per licensing agreement and competency standards. Contribute to the development of resources and course materials and update as required. Training is of a high standard and delivered in accordance with requirements. Resources and course materials are relevant, up to date and aligned with licensing and quality assurance requirements. Develop and implement operational policies and procedures in accordance with organisational requirements and style guide. Liaise with RTO and ensure that training and assessments are compliant with AQTF2007 standards and manage training accordingly. Provide wrap around support to trainees and refer to allied services as appropriate. Provide personal development and prepare trainees for employment opportunities beyond the program. Establish and maintain effective links and partnerships with relevant community service organisations. Effective operational policies and procedures are produced and maintained. Functional relationship with RTO is maintained and quality assurance for training and assessments is accredited. Participation in quality audits as required. Bookings and scheduling of peer educators for school presentations are managed in a timely and prompt manner. Program is regularly reviewed and new opportunities for program development are identified and progressed. Supervise the management of the school presentations booking system. Trainee take up of employment opportunities beyond the program. Assist the manager to identify new program/service opportunities and develop according to need. Seek opportunities to promote the program and assist with promotional events and activities.. Client referrals to allied agencies Talking Realities is well profiled, reflected by number of school bookings and attraction of trainees. KRA 2: Staff and Peer Educator Support Recruit, select and induct staff and peer educators in accordance with existing procedures. Recruitment and selection processes follow organisational policies and procedures. Maintain a pool of peer educators to meet service demand for school presentations. Adequate numbers of suitable peer educators are recruited, trained and 2
3 Provide support, supervision and timely feedback to staff and peer educators to ensure desired performance. Identify training needs for staff. supported to deliver presentations. Timely support and feedback is provided. Staff training needs are identified and reported to the manager KRA 3: Administration Maintain records in accordance with UCW procedures, complete all relevant training documentation and data entry in a timely manner. Attend and contribute to team and network meetings as required. Provide a monthly service report to the manager. Produce compliance reports and statistics as required. Maintain a safe workplace and ensure peer educators are fully aware of safety requirements and expectations. Supervise the usage of vehicles that are utilised by the program. Database and other records are accurately maintained. Active participation in meetings and public relations activities. Timely production of reports, correspondence and accurate statistics. Health and safety standards are maintained. Hazards and potential hazards are identified and timely action is taken to minimise risks. Expenditure is managed within budget allocations. Under the direction of the manager, manage the program within allocated budget and reconcile accounts. SECTION 4 AUTHORITY LEVELS This position is answerable to the Manager Youth Education, Training & Employment Support Services and must operate within the authority levels as set by the Delegations Matrix. 3
4 SECTION 5 COMPETENCY PROFILE Selection Criteria Demonstrated skills and ability to develop, deliver and evaluate training programs targeted to young people, with a contemporary approach to training and facilitation techniques. Experience within the VET sector, with sound knowledge of the Australian Quality Training framework. Highly developed interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work effectively within a team and engage with clients, young people, community agencies and other professionals. Highly developed written and verbal communication, as well as presentation skills to a wide range of people. Demonstrated ability to prioritise workload with highly developed organisation and planning skills. Demonstrated capacity to provide effective management and support for clients and staff. Ability to work in ways that are congruent with the values of UCW. Qualifications Minimum Diploma Community Services, Certificate IV Workplace Training & Assessment is essential. Tertiary qualifications in social services highly regarded. Current First Aid Certificate is desirable. Drivers C Class Licence. Working with Children Check. National Police Clearance. Knowledge Knowledge of contemporary training and facilitation principles and techniques. Sound knowledge and understanding of health and social issues impacting young teen parents. Knowledge of occupational safety and health. Experience Experience with youth training programs and peer education highly desirable. 4
