4 Cassandra Coble 4 Department of Educational leadership Fall 2012 (18 students); Fall 2013 (20 students) Sport in Society (EKIN 3300W) An introduction to the history, goals, and current research examined with sociology of sport. Issues such as gender, power, and race and ethnicity are discussed. Additionally, research methods in sociological studies, including ethics and qualitative and quantitative methods are introduced. Students engaged in group work and discussions as well as interactive discussions led by the instructor. Additionally, the course is a writing intensive course that involves teaching about and assessing student writing in the sport management sector. University of Connecticut Department of Educational Leadership Spring 2013 (22 students) Sport Facility & Event Management (EKIN 3325) Sport Facility & Event Management is an examination of the aspects of management of sport facilities and events, including development, planning, staffing, operations, and evaluation of facilities and events. University of Connecticut Department of Educational Leadership Spring 2013 (3 students); Summer 2013 (3 students) Internship and Direct Observation Supervision Internship and Direct Observation Supervision involved mentoring, managing, and evaluating students throughout the internship semester. With the assistance of the advisor, students evaluated and interpreted their internship and observation experiences and related the experiences to content learned throughout their coursework. Additionally, students were responsible for developing a portfolio encompassing their work that was evaluated by the advisor. Spring 2012 (54 students) Growth and Motor Development (KIN260) Growth and Motor Development was an analysis of the sequential progression of fundamental motor skills, focusing on the environmental factors that influence the development of the fundamental motor skills. Additionally, the course focused on the study of physical growth patterns and biological maturity as related to motor performance, with a presentation of a variety of topics related to growth and motor development, including self-concept, physical fitness, equity issues, and developmental issues related to children in sport.

5 Cassandra Coble 5 Spring 2012 (48 students) Healthy Lifestyles (KIN121) Healthy Lifestyles introduced students to the role of exercise in the areas of physical well-being, nutrition, stress management, health, and disease so students can demonstrate knowledge and implement programs of action for positive lifestyle changes. Additionally, a holistic fitness program was developed, including components of cardiovascular endurance, flexibility, muscular endurance, muscular strength, and body composition. The class included a lecture component for one period (50 minutes) and physical activity portion for the second period (50 minutes). Spring, 2009, Summer, 2009, Fall, 2010, Spring 2010, Summer 2010 Bowling (KIN106C) This course introduced the basic and fundamental skills of bowling, including form and technique. Students learned terminology, rules, strategies, and scoring procedures through lectures, demonstrations, and guided and independent practice. Fall 2008, Spring 2009, Fall 2009, Spring 2010 Conditioning (KIN103D) Conditioning was designed to provide students with knowledge of physical fitness, exercise, and health principles and practices. These principles were applied to personal exercise and health programs through activities such as target heart rate monitoring. Students participated in vigorous exercise activities including calisthenics, jogging, and running. Students also developed personal fitness goals and fitness plans with the assistance of the instructor. Spring 2009, Fall 2010 Indoor Soccer (KIN 108R) This course introduced students to the history and rules of soccer and the fundamental techniques and tactics of the game through lectures, demonstrations, drills, and game play. Fall 2008 Outdoor Soccer (KIN108F)

6 Cassandra Coble 6 Outdoor soccer introduced students to the basic skills, form, and techniques of soccer and the terminology, rules, and strategies through lectures, practices, and tournaments. Fall, 2008, Fall 2009 Softball (KIN 108P) This course taught students the basic skills of throwing, fielding, hitting, and base running. Additionally, students learned the rules of softball, offensive and defensive strategies, and score keeping. Guest Lectures University of Florida Department of Tourism, Recreation, and Sport Management March 2012 (45 students) Gender and sport Gender and sport was designed to introduce students to the sociological aspects of sport and gender. Topics included Title IX, gender, sport, and media issues, gender equity, gender and administration, participation and equity issues, and gender ideology. University of Florida Department of Tourism, Recreation, and Sport Management February 2012 (45 students) Sport and children: Are organized programs worth the effort? An introduction to issues related to youth sport, including the history of youth sport, social changes in youth sport, current issues in youth sport, and research related to youth sport. February 2009 Introduction to Kinesiology Sociology of sport An introduction to the history, goals, and current research examined with sociology of sport. Issues such as gender, power, and race and ethnicity were discussed. Additionally, research methods in sociological studies, including ethics and qualitative and quantitative methods were introduced.
