1 KSU AWARDS MORE BACHELOR'S DEGREES TO NONTRADITIONAL-AGE STUDENTS, BUT THE GAP IS SLOWLY CLOSING WITH TRADITIONAL-AGE STUDENTS 70% % of Undergraduate 60% 50% 40% 30% 20% 10% 0% % Traditional-Age Graduates % Nontraditional-Age Graduates FY FY FY FY Summer Through Spring of Fiscal Year Percent of Bachelor's Awarded Types of Graduates FY FY FY FY Traditional-Age Graduates (< 25 Years of Age) 4 42% 4 46% 46% Nontraditional-Age Graduates (>= 25 Years of Age) 57% 58% 57% 54% 54% Total % of 100% 100% 100% 100% 100% Number of Bachelor's Awarded Types of Graduates FY FY FY FY Traditional-Age Graduates (< 25 Years of Age) ,018 Nontraditional-Age Graduates (>= 25 Years of Age) ,023 1,031 1,187 Total Number of 1,590 1,710 1,801 1,908 2,205 Data Notes: Traditional-age graduates are defined to be 24 or younger under the assumption that the traditional high school graduates are typically 18 years of age and traditional college students typically take 4 to 6 years to complete a bachelor s degree (i.e., the federal 6-year graduation rate concept). Implications for RPG: Like many metropolitan universities, the majority of KSU's bachelor's degree recipients are nontraditional-age students who are not taken into account in the federally-defined calculation of KSU's 6-year graduation rate. With the advent of campus housing, the undergraduate KSU student body is becoming more traditional but, it will be many years, if ever, before the traditional-age students and graduates vastly outnumber the nontraditional students and graduates. Only 37% of the bachelor's degrees awarded in FY 2006 were received by students in the traditional first-time, full-time, freshmen cohorts used to calculate the federally-defined 6-year graduation rate. 5/15/2007, Enterprise Information Management degrees_awarded_annually_age_gap_051407, DSS SIRS Graduation Records

2 FEWER THAN ONE IN FIVE BACHELOR'S GRADUATES AT KSU COMPLETE THEIR DEGREES WITHIN FOUR YEARS Traditional-Age Graduated in 4 4-Year Graduates Years, 18% 18% Total for Age-Defined Nontraditional-Age 6-Year Completion Graduates Rates, 46% 54% Traditional-Age 5-Year Graduates Graduated in 5 16% Years, 16% Traditional-Age 6-Year Graduates 12% Graduated in 6 Years, 1 Percent of Bachelor's Awarded Types of Graduates FY FY FY FY Traditional 4-Year (<= 22 Years of Age) 17% 15% 15% 15% 18% Traditional 5-Year (23 Years of Age) 15% 16% 15% 18% 16% Traditional 6-Year (24 Years of Age) 11% 11% % Nontraditional-Age (>= 25 Years of Age) 57% 58% 57% 54% 54% Number of Bachelor's Awarded Types of Graduates FY FY FY FY Traditional 4-Year (<= 22 Years of Age) Traditional 5-Year (23 Years of Age) Traditional 6-Year (24 Years of Age) Nontraditional-Age (>= 25 Years of Age) ,023 1,031 1,187 Data Notes: These traditional-age graduate classifications assume that the traditional high school graduate is 18 years of age and that the traditional 4-year graduate is 22 or younger; the traditional 5-year graduate is 23; the traditional 6-year graduate is 24, and nontraditional-age graduates are 25 or older. Implications for RPG: The percentages of traditional 4, 5, and 6-year graduates have not changed appreciably over the past five years, although small upward trends appear to be materializing in recent years, probably as a result of the onset of oncampus housing in and raised admission standards in. 5/15/2007, Enterprise Information Management degrees_awarded_annually_age_gap_051407, Source: DSS

These numbers include all undergraduate students and all bachelor's degrees awarded annually as well as nontraditional and traditional students (unlike the six-year graduation rates that are calculated only for firsttime, full-time freshmen cohorts.) Implications for Diversity and RPG: The consistency of these close matches between minority and majority group representations in the student body and in the graduating class from year to year suggests that progression and graduation rates for majority and minority students are basically equivalent at KSU. 5/15/2007, Enterprise Information Management degrees_awarded_annually, UG, DSS SIRS Graduation Records

It jumped up in the graduating class for because of the presence of a contracted MPA cohort of Chinese students completing the program that year. The difference that year was statistically significant compared to the other groups, but the difference was not particularly meaningful for progression rates in general. Implications for Diversity and RPG: The consistency of these close matches between the minority and majority group representations in the graduate student body and in the graduating class from year to year suggests that progression and graduation rates for majority and minority students are basically equivalent at the graduate level. 5/15/2007, Enterprise Information Management degrees_awarded_annually, GR, DSS SIRS Graduation Records

Implications for Diversity and RPG: Percentage gains in the diversity of the student body were greatest for Black students for the ten-year period from 1991 to, but percentage increases among the Asian and groups have been greater over the past five years. Since the advent of student housing in and raised admissions standards in, the overall 80/20 split of majority/minority representation on the KSU student body has not changed, even though the number of minority students increased 44% over that five-year period. 5/15/2007, Enterprise Information Management enrollment_15_years_2, KSU Fact Book 2007

Caution is advised when interpreting percentages based on small numbers of graduates. Only non-resident aliens are included in the international totals. Implications for Diversity and RPG: KSU's growth in majority and minority graduates over the last ten years was five times more than the national growth. African American graduates at KSU grew more than eight times the national rate. At KSU and across the nation, growth in the number of women graduates outpaced men substantially, especially among minorities. 5/15/2007, Enterprise Information Management % Change 1993_, Source: IPEDS Completions 1994 and
