10 Overview of the Application Process Student Applications process by Registrar s Office (RO) Module approval by NUS Faculties based on: 1. Availability 2. Pre-requisite 3. Time-table Housing allocation by International Relations Office (IRO) Students submit solar application (for Student s Pass) Students submit their application for housing RO sends acceptance offers to successful applicants who received 3 modules & above RO sends offer letter and In-Principle Approval (IPA) letter to students: Sem 1 by mid-jun Sem 2 By mid-nov Students pre-register online with NUS Students make travel arrangement to come to Singapore
11 After Online Application 1. Check your s regularly 2. Confirm your Study Plan with your home university and available modules at NUS 3. Research on the on-campus accommodation options available
12 Accommodation Options University CANNOT guarantee placement into any particular accommodation type Most rooms are for single occupancy and are not air-conditioned Majority of exchange students will stay in Halls or Residences Residential Colleges (RCs) have limited rooms for regular exchange students Students can use UTown facilities (i.e. infinity pool and gym) even if they stay in another Residency or off campus Check the rates Students are advised to exercise discretion and caution when engaging off-campus accommodation vendors
13 After you received the offer 1. Read the NUS Registration Guide 2. Apply for on-campus accommodation before the deadline if you have indicated yes for housing and applied as Non-Graduating Exchange (NGE) Students in the online application 3. Do modification to the pre-registered modules only during the Add/Drop exercise which happens in the first two weeks of the school term 4. Prepare the documentation to clear the immigration 5. Purchase sufficient insurance to cover medical, hospitalisation and travel liabilities 6. Set aside money to fund your living expenses while on exchange
14 Prepare for Student s Pass Application Check with your embassy or high commission on whether you need an entry visa to Singapore If entry visa is required, NUS Registrar s Office will liaise with the Singapore Immigration and Checkpoint Authority (ICA) to obtain the In-Principle Approval (IPA) letter which acts as an entry visa to Singapore On your assigned date of registration in NUS, the ICA officers will be oncampus to stamp the IPA letter for you to support your Student s Pass application If you do not need an entry visa, you are required to report on your assigned date of registration in NUS to get the stamped IPA letter to support your Student s Pass application Refer to the NUS Registration Guide for the official registration date(s) Full year exchange students are required to submit medical report Admission is only confirm once the application of Student s Pass is successful
15 Have Sufficient Insurance Coverage It is compulsory for all incoming exchange students to purchase the medical and hospitalisation insurance at NUS. The payment for the insurance is included in the mandatory Miscellaneous Student Fees (MSFs) Once matriculated, exchange student will be covered under the scheme Check the insurance coverage NUS purchase for you Purchase your own health insurance as well as separate travel insurance if necessary

20 Module Add/Drop Add available modules from a list of undergraduate modules for exchange students Check module restrictions. If you did not secure Business, Economics and Law modules at the point of offer, there is very low possibility that you will get to add them when you arrived at NUS. Approval for modules is decided by relevant academic coordinator based on Pre-requisites, Availability Time table Secure at least three modules (or 12 modular credits) per semester All pre-registered modules are set to examinable by default. If you wish to audit any modules, you have to seek permission from your home university

23 Learning Style & Grading Policy For level 1 and level 2 modules, there will be lectures for about 200 students For level 3 and 4 modules, tutorials are usually conducted in smaller classes of about 30 students Online IVLE portal is accessible with NUS ID and password to read full module descriptions, download lecture notes and tutorial assignments Read NUS Grading Policy Assessment mode depends on the programme coordinator Attendance, class participation, assignments, projects and final examination performance counts towards final grade for each module Possible moderation of grades for some modules

26 NUS Code of Student Conduct Read NUS Code of Student Conduct (excerpt:) Academic Integrity (cheating, plagiarism, violation of intellectual and copyright laws) Vandalism, mutilation and theft Inappropriate behaviour (threats, intimidation, drunkenness, lewdness, etc.) Smoking is prohibited on NUS campus Alcohol should not be sold or consumed on NUS campus unless in approved food outlets or during approved events Trafficking, manufacturing, importing and exporting of drugs carries a death penalty. Unauthorised consumption carries heavy penalty IT resources in NUS should not be used for transmission of obscene or inflammatory information nor should they be used for personal and/or private monetary profits
