1 BUSINESS MANAGEMENT TECHNOLOGY Plan for Assessment of Student Academic Achievement From the Mission of Hocking College Hocking College is an innovative, experience-based technical college that nurtures learning and learner success. Mission of Academic Affairs Unit Nurtures learning and learner success. Mission of Business Management Technology To prepare students for entry-level career positions as managers or manager trainees, or to own and operate small businesses; to provide programming to upgrade the skills of those persons already in the field of business by offering training packages to meet their specific needs. A secondary purpose is to provide business and management courses to other technologies at Hocking College. Central Objective Graduates of the Business Management Technology will be well prepared for entry-level employment IP0708BusinessMgt/1

2 Success Skills The following general outcomes are life and work skills cultivated in all students seeking the Associate Degree. 1. Communicates effectively. 2. Demonstrates math skills. 3. Demonstrates learning and critical thinking skills. 4. Maintains professional skills and attitudes. 5. Practices human relations skills. 6. Demonstrates knowledge of science and the environment. 7. Demonstrates community, cultural, and global awareness. 8. Maintains a code of ethics. Program Outcomes The following outcomes express additional, particular skills, behaviors, and attitudes cultivated in students seeking the Associate Degree in Business Management. 1. Effectively uses a computer to develop accounting records. 2. Makes sound management decisions based upon planning and examination of appropriate alternatives. 3. Understands the legal system as it relates to business systems. 4. Develops and implements appropriate marketing strategies. 5. Maintains high ethical standards in business dealings. 6. Effectively performs the staffing process. 7. Performs various analytical business tasks. 8. Communicates effectively through varied media, e.g., written, verbal, visual. 9. Uses effective quantitative skills in business activities. 10. Utilizes professional demeanor through appropriate conduct, dress, and exhibited attitude. The Success Skills and Program Outcomes combine to form a single set of skills, behaviors, and attitudes determined desirable for entry-level practitioners in Business Management, for graduates transferring to four-year institutions, and for educated citizens. 3 Criteria for Assessing Student Academic Achievement 1. The aggregate score for each Program Outcome evaluated by graduates of the Business Management program on a survey will be 3.5 or higher (on a 5-point scale), indicating the graduates satisfaction with their Hocking College preparation for entry-level work. Last year, the overall aggregate score for program outcomes evaluated by graduates was 3.83 exceeding the goal of 3.5 (on a 5-point scale). Additionally, all of the individual aggregates for the program outcomes were above goal except for program outcome number 1(effectively used a computer to develop accounting records). Unfortunately faculty members were unaware of the employment or continuing education status of other graduates. During the previous reporting period, no graduate surveys were received. Unfortunately, no information related to graduate employment in the field of business or in the pursuit of further education was available from faculty members. 8 6. Seventy-five percent of students in Microcomputer Accounting will achieve a grade of 80% or higher on the end-of-the-course test-out."
