2 BLADEN COMMUNITY COLLEGE ASSOCIATE DEGREE & PRACTICAL NURSING PROGRAMS ADMISSION POLICIES AND PROCEDURES Bladen Community College subscribes to an open door admission policy. However, due to the complexity of health care, legal responsibilities of nursing practice, and required academic standards, there are selective admission criteria for the Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) and Practical Nursing Education (PNE) programs. The ADN and PNE programs adhere to the college policy of providing nondiscriminatory, inclusive access for all qualified students who meet these selective admission criteria. Students are admitted to the programs in the fall semester. Student applications will be processed only after all requirements have been met. All requirements must be completed prior to the application deadline in order to be considered for admission in the fall semester. The Associate Vice President of Student Services and staff are responsible for administering all admission policies. The nursing applicant is responsible to ensure that all requirements are met by the established deadline of March 1, Guidelines, policies, and deadlines apply equally to all students; thus, there can be no exception. All applicants to the Associate Degree and Practical Nursing Programs must complete the following: 1. Admission Criteria Nursing Admission Criteria Checklist is available on the Bladen CC home page under Nursing Testing ( 2. Application- Complete general college application requirements in the Office of Student Services. Copies of the TEAS Study Guide, Registration Form, and Testing Schedule can be found by going to the BCC Home Page and clicking Nursing Testing. For more information, contact Tommy Rains, BCC Testing Coordinator, (Building 8 Room 4) at or call (910)
5 ACCEPTANCE TO THE PROGRAMS 1. Notification Letters: Acceptance letters, letters to alternates, and letters to those not accepted to the programs will be sent by April 15, In the event that any student selected declines acceptance or fails to register during the designated registration period, alternates will be granted admission based upon their rank and the number of positions available. 2. Orientation - Prior to the fall semester, students accepted to the ADN and PNE Programs must attend a two-day orientation at BCC in May, Handbooks, policies and procedures, uniform and supply information, and other pertinent data will be discussed. Information regarding this orientation will be attached to the acceptance letter. 3. Clinical agencies reserve the right to deny any student access to a facility based on their criminal background or a positive drug test. If access is denied to the clinical facility, the student will be unable to complete the requirements of the nursing program, which will result in immediate dismissal from the program. 5
6 APPLICATION REVIEW AND SCORING PROCESS A point system is used as an objective means for evaluating Associate Degree and Practical Nursing candidates. Applicants are ranked based on a formula that assigns numerical values to specific criteria. Acceptance into the ADN and PNE programs will be based upon the highest composite score on the TEAS Test. In addition to the TEAS score, points are awarded for the following: Any degree obtained (One year allied health degree, two year or four year degree) Any Allied Health Certificate ( Phlebotomy, NA II, Medication Aide, EMT, and Pharmacy Tech) Additional points are also awarded for a grade of B or better for the completion of the following related courses.
