1 AUDIO/VIDEO PRODUCTION & ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY Plan for Assessment of Student Academic Achievement From the Mission of Hocking College Hocking College is an innovative, experience-based technical college that nurtures learning and learner success. Mission of Academic Affairs Unit Nurtures learning and learner success. Mission of Audio Video Production & Engineering Technology To prepare individuals for careers in the broadcast industry and related fields in areas such as radio, television, audio, video production, and engineering, and to provide students with a background sufficient for growth and advancement. Central Objective Graduates of the Audio Video Production & Engineering Technology will be well prepared for entry-level employment IP0506Audio Video Production & Engineering /1
2 Success Skills The following general outcomes are life and work skills cultivated in all students seeking the Associate Degree. 1. Communicates effectively. 2. Demonstrates math skills. 3. Demonstrates learning and critical thinking skills. 4. Maintains professional skills and attitudes. 5. Practices human relations skills. 6. Demonstrates knowledge of science and the environment. 7. Demonstrates community, cultural, and global awareness. 8. Maintains a code of ethics. Program Outcomes The following outcomes express additional, particular skills, behaviors, and attitudes cultivated in students seeking the Associate Degree in Audio Video Production & Engineering Technology. 1. Uses all common video production equipment (e.g., cameras, recorders, editing equipment, switchers, lights. 2. Uses all common audio production equipment (e.g., microphones, mixers, patch bay, compressor/limiter, multitracking console/tape deck). 3. Uses and interprets all common video test equipment (e.g., waveform monitor/vectorscope). 4. Uses and interprets all common audio test equipment. 5. Uses general-purpose electronic test equipment (e.g., dual trace oscilloscope, digital multimeter, function generator, power supply, breadboard). 6. Produces an audio and/or video production from script to final edit. 7. Draws and interprets electronic schematic diagrams. 8. Draws and interprets audio and video signal flow diagrams. 9. Troubleshoots and repairs minor electronic and mechanical failures. 10. Behaves reliably and responsibly, and has a professional attitude. Broadcast Production and Engineering (formerly Audio/Video Production & Engineering) met with stakeholders to ReVISION program outcomes using Ruth Stiehl s Outcomes Based Education (OBE) process (Nov. 4, 2005). The revised list follows: 1. Install, maintain, adjust and repair audio and video/broadcast equipment. 2. Safely and properly operate all equipment and systems to advance the creative process from conception to successful outcome in a broadcast facility (from pre production to post production). 3. Develop and employ a professional attitude in a diverse workplace. 4. Communicate effectively with industry specific terminology with supervisors, co-workers, Customers and clients. 5. Demonstrates flexibility in application of a diverse skill set and knowledge in multiple roles/positions. The Success Skills and Program Outcomes combine to form a single set of skills, behaviors, and attitudes determined desirable for entry-level practitioners in Audio Video Production & Engineering, for graduates transferring to four-year institutions, and for educated citizens. 3 Criteria for Assessing Student Academic Achievement 1. The aggregate score for each Program Outcome evaluated by graduates of the Audio Video Production and Engineering program on a survey will be 3.5 or higher (on a 5-point scale), indicating the graduates satisfaction with their Hocking College preparation for entry-level work. Data gathered for :* Number of Graduates: 10 Number of Responses: 0 Program Outcome** Average Aggregate * Source of information: Hocking College Graduate Surveys (September 2006). ** For a complete listing of the Program Outcomes see page 2 of this report. A limited survey was conducted consisting of 10 graduates from Spring Quarter None of the graduates responded to the survey. For the previous reporting year one graduate reported an overall aggregate of 5.00 (on a 5-point scale) for the Program Outcomes (see IP0405, page 3). During , on-site supervisors for the Audio Video Production and Engineering Practicum, evaluated five (5) practicum students at an overall aggregate of 5.00 (on a 5-point scale) for the Program Outcomes (see IP0405, page 11). * Graduate and employer survey results for are reported with data for ; survey results are not available until 15 IP0506Audio Video Production & Engineering /3

During this time period, the mathematics faculty administered the Demonstrates Math Skills test to 587 students. Seven (7) who were enrolled in this program, earned an overall performance aggregate of 4.14 (on a 5-point scale) on this test (see Mathematics, IP0405, page 12). * Graduate and employer survey results for are reported with data for ; survey results are not available until 15 IP0506Audio Video Production & Engineering /4

The aggregate score for each Program Outcome evaluated by on-site practicum supervisors for Audio Video Production & Engineering students will be 3.5 or higher (on a 5-point scale) indicating better than average to excellent performance. Data gathered for : Number of Students: 16 Students Program Outcomes Aggregate Number of Responses Overall Aggregate 4.62 The overall aggregate score of 4.62 for Program Outcomes as evaluated by on-site practicum supervisors exceeded the goal of 3.5 (on a 5-point scale). In addition, each of the individual aggregate scores was above goal. This year s overall aggregate of 4.62 is down slightly from the score for the previous reporting period, when practicum supervisors rated the performance of five (5) students on the Program Outcomes at 5.00 (on a 5-point scale) (see IP0405, Page 11). Program change planned for as a result of this analysis: No program changes are planned as a result of this analysis. This Criterion will be changed to read as follows in our Plan: The criterion will remain the same. IP0506Audio Video Production & Engineering /8

The aggregate score for each Success Skill evaluated by on-site practicum supervisors for Audio Video Production & Engineering students will be 3.5 or higher (on a 5-point scale) indicating better than average to excellent performance. Number of Students: 16 Students Success Skills Aggregate Number of Responses Overall Aggregate 4.76 The overall aggregate score of 4.76 for the Success Skills as evaluated by on-site practicum supervisors exceeded the goal of 3.5 (on a 5-point scale). In addition, each of the individual aggregates was above goal. This year s overall aggregate of 4.76 was slightly lower than the score for the previous reporting period, when practicum supervisors rated the overall aggregate for the Success Skills of five (5) students at a 5.00 (on a 5-point scale) (see IP0405, page 12).\ Program change planned for as a result of this analysis: No program changes are planned as a result of this analysis.
