1 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE MEDIA CONTACT: Mari Beth Bittan (305) ext. 224 A NEW ADAPTATION OF THE BROADWAY HIT COMEDY THE SEVEN YEAR ITCH, WHICH INSPIRED THE ICONIC HOLLYWOOD FILM, OPENS FEBRUARY 19 AT MIAMI THEATER CENTER Miami Shores, FL January 12, 2015 Miami Theater Center will offer South Florida audiences the opportunity to experience a new and unconventional interpretation of George Axelrod s 1950s Broadway hit comedy THE SEVEN YEAR ITCH, re-imagined by MTC Artistic Director STEPHANIE ANSIN and MTC Resident Artist FERNANDO CALZADILLA. Performances will take place February 19 through March 22, 2015 (Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 8:00 PM and Sunday at 2:00 PM) at Miami Theater Center, 9806 NE 2 nd Avenue. In conjunction with the production, MTC will host a free panel discussion, entitled THE SEVEN YEAR ITCH - FACT AND FICTION, at Books & Books in Coral Gables on February 25 at 8:00 PM. The play will be directed by ANSIN, with costume, lighting, and set design by CALZADILLA, original music and sound design by MTC Resident Composer LUCIANO STAZZONE, and voice and movement direction by LUCKNER LUCKY BRUNO, JR. The cast will feature Socialmiami.com Publisher AARON GLICKMAN, in his South Florida acting debut, playing the lead role of Richard - a marketing executive of a New York publishing house - as well as DIANA GARLE (The Girl), JAMES HOWELL (Dr. Brubaker), BETSY GRAVER (Helen), CHAZ MENA (Tom MacKenzie), LINDA BERNHARD (Elaine), JESSICA FARR (Miss Morris and Understudy to Helen), SHIRA ABERGEL (Sally/Pat), ANARIDIA BURGOS (Marie and Understudy to Sally/Pat and Elaine), JOE FERRARELLI (Male Understudy), and CAITI WIGGINS (Understudy to The Girl, Miss Morris, and Marie). The original play s sexual innuendos and romantic fantasies will be brought to life along with a few irreverent surprises including an unexpected nod to a classic Marilyn Monroe moment. Ansin views this newest production as a continuation of a challenge she has embraced: to re-interpret theater classics for contemporary audiences. This season, I wanted to create new versions of Hedda Gabler and The Seven Year Itch because these two theater favorites share common, universal themes of isolation frustration, anxiety, and entrapment, said MTC Artistic Director Stephanie Ansin. Richard -- the main character of The Seven Year Itch -- is trying to escape from his perceived trap - the boredom, drudgery, and loneliness of being stuck working in the city while his family is spending the summer at the beach. Last fall, we opened our season with Hedda Gabler, a play whose title character is a woman who feels trapped in a man s world and goes to an extreme measure to escape from a stifling, loveless marriage and suffocating domesticity, Ansin added. MTC is excited to produce fresh interpretations of these timeless classics. THE SEVEN YEAR ITCH A married man s mid-life crisis comes to a head when his wife and child leave for their summer-long holiday at the seashore. While his family escapes New York City s sweltering heat, 38-year old Richard Sherman stays behind in the city to toil. Soon, feelings of boredom, marital dissatisfaction, and

2 entrapment begin to brew. Temptation arrives on his doorstep in the form of a charming 22-year-old actress who has moved in upstairs. Fantasy scenes ensue in Richard s vivid imagination and contrast with the reality of his fears, merging into a hilarious comedy. MTC s adaptation of George Axelrod s THE SEVEN YEAR ITCH is presented by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc. PERFORMANCE DATES AND TICKET INFORMATION Performances will take place February 19 through March 22, 2015 (Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 8:00 PM and Sunday at 2:00 PM). Tickets to the official Opening Night on February 21 are priced at $150 each and include access the post-performance reception with the show s cast and creative team. Tickets for all other performances, including the February 19 and 20 Preview Nights, are $35 and may be purchased at or by calling (305) A PANEL DISCUSSION: THE SEVEN YEAR ITCH - FACT AND FICTION February 25 at 8:00 PM, FREE, Books & Books, 265 Aragon Avenue, Coral Gables Panelists: Stan DeHart, PhD, President, Theatre House Stan DeHart has been in educational, professional and community theater for over fifty years as a teacher, director, actor and designer, and he has directed over 250 plays.
