6 Workshop Descriptions FRIDAY, JULY 10, 2015 WORKSHOP Ethics & Risk Management in the Age of the Affordable Care Act - Part I & II - 6 CEUs Workshop Sequence VI diverges from our typical approach to risk management training. Rather than focusing primarily on specific risk issues in psychological practice and strategies that minimize them, this workshop will focus on ethical and risk management issues as they relate to the broader changes in psychological practice that we and other observers believe are and will be generated by the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Depending on how successfully health care reform is implemented, the changes to psychological practice are likely to be profound, particularly for those psychologists in third party reimbursed private practices. We have already been buffeted by the industrialization and external management of the health care industry that has reduced both income and job satisfaction while increasing the administrative burdens of our work. The ACA is aimed at increasing efficiency and efficacy in an attempt to reward results rather than procedures through more integrated medical homes that will control decisions about care. There is some good news here. There seems to be a real understanding that mental health and physical health are intimately related and that treating them as separate silos results in greater costs and less effective service. Health care insurance will be available to many new patients, many of whom are poor and disadvantaged and many of whom will have substantial mental health needs. But this reorganization will require major changes in traditional methods and business plans of private practitioners, and we believe it is crucial for all psychologists to begin to plan for this change. So this workshop will attempt to describe the changes we and other observers see coming and some preliminary thoughts about strategies for dealing with these changes. Our problem is that while we are pretty sure these changes will take place, and they will not be sudden, no one can predict how soon they will occur and the exact shape they will take. But good risk management requires facing these trends knowledgably and beginning to develop adaptive strategies. In addition, this workshop will provide an updated focus on the changes in practice that will result from the digital information revolution. The ACA will require practitioners to digitize their records with interactive capacities so that care can be more effectively coordinated. More patients will want to communicate electronically, and there will be a great expansion of telepsychological services, both direct and adjunctive. There will need to be changes in the ethics code and other regulations to separate private from professional activities, to allow different methods of marketing and practice promotion, and to deal with the complex issues presented by interjurisdictional practice. This workshop will provide what we hope will be a beginning conversation about a process that will be with us for a number of years changes which present dangers and opportunities for the profession of psychology. Presenter: Dr. Eric A. Harris SATURDAY, JULY 11, 2015 WORKSHOP FORENSIC DIVISION PROGRAM The Results of Forensic Psychology Survey CEUs We will review the priorities established by Forensic Members in the evaluation survey. Dr. Silverman will address the positive and negative aspects of recording evaluations. Dr. Butts will address the need to establish and maintain relationships with the legal community. Dr. Frumkin will discuss how to expand your forensic practice. Dr. Bloomfield will address how FPA is protecting and expanding in our own field of practice. Each individual will speak for twenty minutes and then the rest of the panel will respond to each presentation for 10 minutes. The floor will then be opened for audience participation for 30 minutes. Then students will be invited to speak with panel members for 30 minutes. Presenters: Dr. Wade Silverman, Dr. Lori Butts, Dr. Bruce Frumkin and Dr. Stephen Bloomfield WORKSHOP NEUROPSYCH DIVISION PROGRAM Family Systems Intervention with Pediatric Neurology Patients - 2 CEUs Family Systems practice in pediatric psychology is a new and scarcely researched field. Clinically relevant and scientifically supported research and evidence based approaches in pediatric psychology have primarily been produced by studies that are disease and disorder specific. There is a significant paucity of established, evidence-based examination of family dynamics and family systems intervention in the clinical practice of pediatric neuropsychology. The present workshop aims to present an overview of the integration of family systems concepts and the influence of context (family system) on development and outcome of neuropsychological consequences of neurodevelopmental disorders in pediatric neuropsychology. Several models to include consultation, intervention, and collaboration will be presented. Brief case vignettes from our pediatric neuropsychology practice will also

7 Workshop Descriptions be presented to illustrate significant points and concepts. The material presented will be useful for both Neuropsychologists and General Clinicians who work with pediatric neurology patients and their families. Presenters: Dr. Yolanda Leon and Claudia Ramirez WORKSHOP Understanding the importance of assessing and evaluating effort and motivation in clinical practice CEUs This program will focus on the importance of effort and motivation in clinical assessment. It will demonstrate ways to assess for effort and motivation: formal and informal. It will discuss feedback to patients regarding invalid test results. Case presentation at end. Presenter: Dr. Lamar J. Ingulli WORKSHOP 204: MEDICAL PSYCH DIVISION PROGRAM Psychopharmacology: The Basics and Beyond - 3 CEUs This presentation is reasonably designed for all psychologists to get a better understanding of the RxP movement and it s principles. My hope is that others will be able to collect valuable information on drugs and disease processes that can affect their patients. Subsequently the content of this information should be helpful in helping other psychologists identify everyday common occurrences in clinical settings that can really turn out to be rooted in medical based etiology. I plan to use academic material from several different areas. This includes pharmacology, clinical psychopharmacology, medical neuropsychology, and pathophysiology. I think these subject areas will ultimately morph into informative presentation that will give more relevance and insight into the topic of RxP. Presenters: Dr. Christopher Rossilli, Dr. Perry Buffington and Dr. Pat DeLeon WORKSHOP 205: Sometimes David Wins - 1 CEU The Unlikely Story of How Prescriptive Authority Became Law in Illinois With legislative success in the spring of 2014, Illinois became the third state in the nation in which licensed clinical psychologists, with advanced, specialized training, could be eligible to prescribe psychotropic medications. Dr. Rom- Rymer will describe the path to legislative victory and then will talk about the current process of implementation of our law. Psychologists are forging new paths in healthcare delivery to meet the needs of the most under-served and at-risk residents in Illinois. Presenter: Dr. Beth Rom-Rymer TOWN HALL LUNCHEON From the APA Practice Directorate: As psychologists we know a thing or two about change. It involves giving up old ways and embracing new approaches to accomplishing our goals. In a world where technology is so omnipresent and health care spending and delivery are under so much pressure, psychologists need to be able to track and evaluate the innovations that are becoming part of their practices. So how can psychologists harness these innovations to improve the quality of their services and comply with evolving regulations? Can psychologists attain greater satisfaction and more control of their professional destinies by embracing innovation? And what is needed to achieve effective innovation? These questions were at the heart of State Leadership Conference (SLC) in To set the stage, just consider how the evolving landscape of health care delivery and financing is driving the demand for practice innovation. Presenter: Dr. Lori Butts WORKSHOP NEUROPSYCH DIVISION PROGRAM Introduction to Structural and Functional MRI for the Clinician - 3 CEUs The presentation will start with a description of the clinical application of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) versus other imaging modalities in the evaluation of common neurological conditions. The basics of how MR images are acquired and which common MR pulse sequences show in the image. Various structural scans will be used to help the audience become familiar with the visual representations in different MR sequences. The factors that control the clarity of images, such as magnet strength and the timing of different pulse sequences, will be discussed as will the visual representation of different tissue densities. The commonly used pulse sequences will be discussed regarding the best sequences to highlight various clinical conditions. Diffusion imaging and Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI) will be explained in terms of what DTI is measuring and how it can be used in the study of white matter, including the use of tractography. Functional MRI (fmri) methods and the Blood Oxygen Level Dependent (BOLD) signal will be covered and the utility of fmri in clinical research be discussed. Presenter: Dr. John Dsurney WORKSHOP PEARSON CORP. PROGRAM An Advanced Interpretation of the WISC-V: Theoretical Implications for Evidence Based Practices - 3 CEUs This workshop will provide attendees with a brief overview of new five-factor structure of the WISC-V and new subtests added. The presenters will then focus on interpretive highlights

8 Workshop Descriptions of the WISC-V. Theoretical foundations utilized include neuropsychological, CHC, and working memory research and trends. A case study will be reviewed to demonstrate implications of WISC-V interpretive results. Scoring options for the WISC-V and other Pearson assessments may be difficult to decipher. The cost benefits of each scoring option will be described to help attendees decide which option may best fit their practice. Feedback from attendees on WISC-V interpretation will be collected and discussed on the fly via Smart Phone technology with regards to the implication for clinical psychological practice. Presenters: Daniella Maglione and Dr. Maggie Kjer WORKSHOP PUBLIC EDUCATION PROGRAM The Florida Psychologists Role and Opportunities in Public Education - 3 CEUs This workshop is to educate members on the various programs and information available to enhance their interaction with and education of the public through APA s Public Education Campaign. Objectives: Present an APA workshop to the public on stress in America. Form a partnership for educating the public with their local YMCA or PTA based on the relationship already formed by APA Understand how to make media and new contacts Understand the Disaster Response network and the psychologically health workplace programs Understand the resources available to them to education the public Presenters: Dr. Laura Cohen and Dr. Regina Mendoza WORKSHOP KEYNOTE PRESENTATION Psychology and Medicine Merge: The Potential and Peril - 1 CEU Psychology and Medicine Merge: The Potential and Peril will commence with a brief historical review of the American health care system, the Affordable Care Act and the future of health care as psychology and medicine merge. Included will be a discussion of psychology s entry into psychopharmacology training and practice, from APA s 1992 Ad Hoc Task Force on Psychopharmacology to a discussion of the most recent legislation advancing the RxP agenda. Finally, there will be a brief explanation of the critical importance of FPA s plan to pass RxP legislation in Florida. Objectives: Participants will gain insight into the future of health care in America Participants will understand psychology s potential role in that future Participants will appreciate the importance of advancing the RxP agenda Presenter: Dr. Pat DeLeon SUNDAY, JULY 12, 2015 WORKSHOP Leadership Training: Highly Effective Board Member - 3 CEUs (by invitation only) The workshop s target audience is current and aspiring board members of any organization. The workshop is by invitation only. The workshop presents best practice and concepts regarding the role and responsibilities of the executive director (ED) and board of directors (BOD) of an organization. Topics that are covered include: I. Governance levels and responsibilities for BOD & ED/Staff II. Micromanagement III. Communication between BOD and with the public IV. Defining Great Board Members V. BOD-ED Relationship standards of Practice VI. Priorities, indicators & Measures VII. BOD Responsibilities during board meetings Presenter: Cheval Breggins, MBA WORKSHOP CHILD/ADOLESCENT & FAMILY DIVISION PROGRAM Application of Contemporary Research-Based Mindfulness Meditation Practice to Psychological Treatment and Preventative Care of Children, Adolesents and Families 2 CEUs Mindfulness-Based pracices are becoming an increasingly popular approach for intervention and prevention among medical professionals, including psychologists. Given the important role Child/Adolescent Psychologists play in the treatment and prevention of illness in children and adolescents, it is vital that as a profession we can be at the forefront of this movement. This is particularly important given the changing times and limitations imposed by the health care industry on psychological practice, which demand the development of nontraditional and innovative roles of psychologists within our communities. The current presentation has the objective of advancing the knowledge-base and practice of clinical applications of Mindfulness-Based Psychotherapy. This presentation will

9 Workshop Descriptions provide current scientific evidence supporting the effectiveness of Mindfulness Meditation in psychological treatment and preventative care. The presentation will also provide information, learning exercises, and resources focusing on the use of Mindfulness Meditation in psychotherapy, specifically as part of cognitive-behavioral interventions and treatment of special populations and disorders. Lastly, participants will learn about the application of Mindfulness Meditation as part of a school curriculum and in training specific groups (teachers, parents, other professionals). Presenters: Dr. Judith Migoya and Dr. Karan Lamb WORKSHOP WOMEN S ISSUES DIVISION PROGRAM Psychologist s Toolkit: Integrative and Empirically-Based Strategies to Build Therapeutic Success 3 CEUs Advances in psychology, neuroscience, and integrative medicine create a solid foundation for a holistic psychology practice that utilizes the biopsychosocialspiritual approach as standard practice. The Integrative Wave in psychology enables us to expand our therapeutic treatment models well beyond those of our predecessors. However, it may be challenging to balance an integrative approach with specific empirically-validated treatments. In addition, our clients are increasingly exposed to promises of instant well-being from untrained, non-credentialed service providers, freely marketed pharmaceuticals, and popular remedies, many of which are ineffective or even detrimental. Our task, beyond academic training, dissertation, licensure, and continuing education, is to continue to expand and deepen our use of effective tools in assessment and psychotherapy. In addition, our methods need to serve our clients while maintaining ethical standards and best practices. Beyond our common psychological science foundations, each of us develop our own unique models of treatment delivery, whether or not we have examined and modified them. This presentation will explore specific integrative models while providing theoretical, empirical, and practical strategies to expand clinical efficacy. Participants will have the opportunity to integrate their own empiricallybased approaches to enhance processes and outcomes in their clinical practice. We will also discuss continuing to develop a professional psychologist image that encourages clients to engage in and continue with integrative and empirically-based treatments. Presenter: Dr. Lori Kleinman WORKSHOP CHILD/ADOLESCENT & FAMILY DIVISION PROGRAM The Psychologist s Role in Family Law: Making Children Winners - 3 CEUs This two hour workshop is intended to provide information and training on the varying roles psychologists can have when children are involved in the Family Law/Divorce process. The purpose will be to initially discuss the roles the psychologist can undertake. These include therapist, Forensic Evaluator, Guardian Ad Litem, Parenting Coordinator, Mediator or Facilitator in the Collaborative Divorce process. Discussions will relate to the laws, statutes, rules of procedures, Florida Administrative Code, as well as the varying ethical codes pertinent to this work. Psychologists who provide therapy to children and adolescents also find themselves thrown into this arena without really knowing what they can and cannot do, say and /or write. The divorce process, especially if occurring after the onset of treatment plays a special role in the therapeutic process. This will also be addressed in this presentation. Time will also be allowed for questions and answers. Presenter: Dr. Craig Fabrikant WORKSHOP Department of Health Update: Unlicensed Activity and 2016 Licensure Renewal - 2 CEUs Part I ULA: The Florida Department of Health s Unlicensed Activity (ULA) Office has developed an outreach campaign, at the request of the Florida Board of Psychology, to educate consumers regarding the importance of ensuring that psychological services are rendered by an individual actively licensed by the state agency. This presentation will provide information on the recent release of a public service announcement developed by the ULA office, with significant input from former Florida Psychological Association (FPA) Executive Director, Connie Galietti; provide current statistics regarding psychology ULA cases; and, provide information on how practitioners can assist the agency in combatting unlicensed activity. Part II 2016 Renewal: During the 2014 FPA conference, the Florida Board of Psychology office provided information to the membership regarding revised continuing education guidelines found in Rule 64B , Florida Administrative Code, in addition to information on the newly integrated licensure renewal and continuing education tracking system. The 2014 licensure renewal for psychologists introduced licensees to this system through an optional reporting phase. The 2015 presentation will re-cap the continuing education guidelines and also provide updates on the mandatory reporting phase required for psychologists for the upcoming 2016 renewal. Presenters: Scott Flowers and Chilo Cases, JD and Anna King, BOP Liaison
