NIH funded study: Improving Adherence to Hydroxyurea Therapy in Pediatric Sickle Cell Disease Served as study interventionist with children and adolescents with sickle cell disease. Conducted standardized electronic assessment of barriers to clinic and medication adherence for a longitudinal study. Implemented problem-solving intervention adapted from Behavioral Family System s Therapy (BFST) with children and their parents to address barriers. Worked on a multidisciplinary research team. Principal Investigator: Monica Mitchell, Ph.D. 06/08-9/10 Research Associate, Department of Pediatrics, Division of Clinical Psychology, University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, Miami, FL. NIH funded School Based Intervention to Prevent Metabolic Syndrome in Low Income Minority Youth: Assisted in the development and implementation of a school-wide health intervention that promotes behavioral changes to diminish children's risk for developing metabolic syndrome and obesity. Project coordinator responsibilities included designing recruitment materials, recruiting participants, scheduling and facilitating medical assessments, data management, administration of psychological assessments, coordination of IRB protocol submissions, data analysis, and assisted with presentation and manuscript preparation. Collaborated with an interdisciplinary team of teachers, school administrative staff, nutritionist, clinical psychologists, medical doctors and research associates. Principal Investigator: Alan Delamater, Ph.D. NIH/NINR funded, national multisite research study: An Internet Coping Skills Training (CST) Program for Teens with Type 1 Diabetes: Project coordinator responsibilities included recruiting and enrolling participants, data management, writing articles for quarterly newsletters, coordination of IRB protocol submissions, participating in research associate multisite conference calls and principal investigator multisite conference calls, conducting baseline/follow up assessments for adolescent participants in a study examining the effectiveness of an internet based coping skills training program. Principal Investigators: Alan Delamater, Ph. D., (University of Miami) & Margaret Grey, Dr.PH, FAAN, CPNP (Yale University School of Nursing). NIH funded Type 2 Diabetes Risk Reduction for Minority Youth: Project coordinator responsibilities included recruiting participants, scheduling and facilitating medical assessments, administration of psychological assessments, data management, coordination of IRB protocol submissions, and assisted with presentation and manuscript preparation. Cofacilitated Spanish, bi-weekly family-based intervention groups in the school-setting. Collaborated with an interdisciplinary team of teachers, school administrative staff, clinical psychologists, medical doctors and research associates. Principal Investigator: Alan Delamater, Ph. D.

D. 08/07-12/07 Undergraduate Research Assistant, University of Miami School Readiness Assessment Team, Department of Psychology, University of Miami, Coral Gables, FL. Responsibilities included visiting head start preschool centers and assessing children using Learning Express, CLASS-C, and a science assessment; input data gathered during assessments, trained on new assessments and administered them monthly, and assisted graduate students in the creation of the science assessment testing material. Facility Description: The Center for Children and Families is a multidisciplinary team of researchers and service providers that provide mental health services to the community. Center for Children and Families Conduct psychoeducational assessments. Test battery includes: WAIS-IV, WJ III, and appropriate socioemotional rating scales. Responsibilities include report writing and providing feedback to families. Population: Children and adolescents and their caregivers. Facility Description: Cincinnati Children s Hospital Medical Center is a non-profit tertiary pediatric hospital and research center. Completing rotations in: Cincinnati Comprehensive Sickle Cell Center Provide behavioral medicine consultation services to multidisciplinary medical team during sickle cell follow up clinic and day hospital. Consult with the medical team regarding the psychosocial functioning and care of patients in an effort to maximize treatment adherence and promote adjustment. Provide disposition recommendations including referrals for outpatient psychological services. Population: Children and adolescents with Sickle Cell Disease and their caregivers. Supervisors: Marisa Hilliard, Ph.D & Lori E. Crosby, Psy.D. INNOVATIONS in Community Research and Program Evaluation Conduct preschool assessments using the Bracken Basic Concept Scale Third Edition Revised. Responsibilities include: coordinating assessments with school administrators, administering assessments, hand scoring during administration, computer scoring, and attending bi-yearly refresher trainings. Population: Children ages 3-4 enrolled in Pre-School. Supervisors: Jennifer Palmquist, and Lori Crosby, Psy.D Chronic Disease Self-Management Group Facilitate empirically-supported manualized group for patients with sickle cell disease and caregivers that focuses on education and self-management.
