PROFESSIONAL ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF NOTE * While chair of The Oak Ridge Schools Time for Results Committee on Parent Involvement, the committee produced and hosted a series of eleven videotaped programs entitled "Guiding Your Child's Education". These programs provided parents of young children with information about early childhood development. The purpose of these tapes was to promote parent involvement as in the education of their children. * While president of the Tennessee School Counselor Association, we drafted a job description for Tennessee school counselors that was accepted by an ad hoc committee comprised of representatives from TSCA and Tennessee Association of Counselor Educators and Supervisors. We were instrumental in getting it approved by appropriate government bodies. The State Board of Education adopted it in May 1988 for inclusion in the Minimum Rules and Regulations. * As guest editors, Dr. Jim Gumaer and I edited a special issue of the Elementary School Guidance and Counseling journal in 1984 focusing on "Families in Transition." * As a professional school counselor, I have developed and conducted various staff development programs in my schools. The programs include: "Strategies to enhance parent support"; "Understanding students from single parent families"; "Using minimum testing results to improve instruction"; and, "Is parent involvement useful?" 8
9 9 * As a school counselor, I facilitated several parent workshops and parent education classes, such as "Parents as Sexuality Educators"; "Establishing a self-care arrangement for your child"; and, "Understanding minimum testing results". Also, each year I conducted parenting groups using Active Parenting and STEP. * I have served on five visiting teams for the Southern Association of College and Schools to evaluate school guidance programs. Also, I served on the National Council of Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) visiting team for the College of Education at Tennessee State University in Nashville (TN) in March * While in my doctoral residency program at The University of Tennessee, I compiled a book of readings on school counseling and guidance. I used the book for two years to teach a graduate level seminar course on school guidance and counseling with Dr. William A. Poppen. * I have conducted or organized numerous guidance and counseling related workshops. Most notable include: 1986 TSCA Conference for Elementary School Counselors; 1979 Elementary School Guidance Workshop co-sponsored by the University of Tennessee and by the State Department of Education; and, 1976 Guidance Activities for Classroom Teachers Workshop sponsored by Union College, KY. * During my service as Chair of Morristown Education Association's Human Relations Committee, we developed and distributed the Human Relations Handbook for Classroom Teachers. Also, we organized a human relations special emphasis week called "I'm O.K., You're O.K." throughout the Morristown City Schools and the community. In 1977, the Southeast Regional Association of Classroom Teachers gave its Human Relations Award to this committee. In 1979 the Tennessee Education Association awarded its Human Relations Award to this committee. Also, in 1980, the National Education Association awarded the Morristown Education Association with the Rosena J.
