MANAGING NGOS MANAGING NGO S THIS IS WHY THIS ELECTIVE IS INTERESTING!

LET ME INTRODUCE THE ELECTIVE TEAM Prof. Dr. Lucas Meijs Lonneke Roza

THIS IS WHAT WE ARE TALKING ABOUT

YOU ARE PROBABLY QUITE FAMILIAR WITH NGOS

NGOS ARE ALSO

NGOS ARE ALSO.

MANY ISSUES.

THE COURSE ITSELF. Our input Your output Lectures by Prof. Dr. Lucas Meijs, Lonneke Roza and many guest lectures Academic experts Practitioner experts At least one fieldtrip/outing Individual and group coaching during assignments Enthusiasm and passion for the topic! Insights in a relatively underappreciated sector at RSM Understanding of the NGO sector and organizations Lively discussions in class Policy advise on a NGO organizational issue Working on your own topic of interest within this field (personal assignment) No exam.

Tilman Bauer (MSc GBSM, 2014): "Doing Good Done Better" is a great course and I definitely recommend it because it gives an alternative perspective to stakeholder management. Although for-profit business companies are strictly speaking also "non-governmental organizations", it is the non-profit scene that offers at least equally exciting career opportunities. Thus, learning about how to manage a non-profit organization and what the opportunities and challenges are gives students the necessary skills to succeed not only in non-profit organizations but also in for-profit organizations partnering with non-profit organizations. Elena del Sarto (MSc GBSM, 2014): I picked the course because i wanted to understand both the advantages and challenges of the business part of NGOs and charitable organizations, plus I was curious about all the differences with for-profit business ( for example see how fundraising works, how you can manage volunteers, corporate governance of NGOs and NPOs, and how to deal with donors or beneficiaries). During the course all these various aspects are covered, and the final assignment was aimed at deeply understanding how to run a specific project within an NGO or NPO or how to tackle a problem that might arise for them!

CONTENT Why do NGO s and the civil society exist? What a (business) CSR manager should know about NGO s and the civil society? What a NGO-manager, with a business background, should know about NGO s and the civil society? What a consultant should know about NGO s and the civil society?

MOST IMPORTANT TAKE AWAY Yes, you can find a job in the NGO economy.

Former students grade this course 4.5 on a scale of 5: A very good course that teaches you to think in a different way! The only course I ever followed that made you think instead of read & write It taught me to understand the surroundings of the business environment in a very skilled way! Being outside allowed me to remain more concentrated than during an indoor lecture Meeting outdoors was really great and inspiring for our creativity! A lot of time for interaction and questions The guest lecturers and the company visits are great! Out-of-the-box thinking! SIGN UP FOR More questions?
