6 Introduction to the BIM concept BIM = Building Information Modeling software: Revit Architecture = BIM ArchiCAD = BIM MicroStation / Bently Architecture = BIM Vectorworks = BIM Catia / Gehry software = BIM The concept of BIM modeling is that architects are able to use the 3D building model to extract all the required project drawings and building views including sections and elevations,,presentation drawings, animations, renderings and detailed construction drawings, as well as quantity, sustainability calculations and price estimations. Consequently, changes to the model are instantly updated on all drawings. Working with a 3-Dimensional building model gives the architects flexibility and benefits that are not available in a traditional 2D building project.
7 BIM working concept The most significant highlights of the BIM method are: - Single file concept all representations ti are included d in one file - Real architectural elements used for modeling (objects) - Changes to the model affect all drawings (and vice versa) - Automatic generation and updating of documentation - Architectural content (object libraries) - Building information data attached to the elements - Additional: (rendering, animation, quantity take-offs, schedules) - The documentation workflow is automatic. - You actual build the building in the digital model before building

22 History / Situation The Government s decision about the Det Digitale Byggeri started a big planning proces about how to deal with ditialzing the building industry Proffessionel working groups were established Rules developed d Procedures were discussed and decided And it was all implemented the 1. of January 2017 in Statsbyggeloven (a Law)
23 History / Situation Statsbyggeloven t 1971 (The Law) IKT-bekendtgørelse becomes valid from 1. of January 2007: When The State is the client and construction price is more than 20 million d. Kr. = Requirements of projects to be BIM modeled. IKT-bekendtgørelse is extended d in April 2013 now it also becomes law for Local Governments and Regions and building costs limits are decreased to 5 million d. Kr. (for The State) (still 20 mill. for Local Governments and Regions)

Offices cannot survive Where e ewer e you get a job in an architect s t s office it will be your daily life to work with BIM!! no doubt about it!! Architectural competitions shall be BIM modeled

In the beginning (2007) - skepticism and resistance Expensive to implement in hardware and software Expensive to train personnel new recruitment Hard time to get through for the offices Now it is better An initial optimism BIM started as "design" - slipping more and more into all architectural al related processes - primarily il because of the efficiency and simulations Now integrated in architectural competitions New job opportunities
46 What did the schools? The University Colleges (Konstruktørskolerne)? Started out straight away - and today they heavily sits on many of the jobs that architects could have had. Engineering Schools and Aalborg University (A & D)? Has come up with - and is now up in speed: BIM-modeling Simulations, i statics, construction, etc.. (BVU*net) The two schools of architecture? Have been slow to get started because they considered Det Digitale Byggeri only as a matter of technical design, which increasingly gyis wrong!! The architectural schools have unfortunately limited knowledge of the BIM-situation (very critical in my eyes)!!
