2 BACKGROUND In line with the Government s effort to assist unemployed graduates to gain employment through the Graduate Training Scheme, this Certificate in Certified Outsourcing Specialist (COS) Financial & Accounting is developed to equip graduates with the knowledge and skills expected of an executive in a company. It is intended that this training programme would enhance graduates with knowledge and skills as well as increase their employability. OBJECTIVES OF THE TRAINING PROGRAMME To enhance graduates employability by equipping graduates with knowledge of Financial accounting principles & process. To raise the level of self-confidence and overall grooming of the trainees through the Business skills program. TRAINING PROGRAMME DESCRIPTION The training programme consists of following modules targeted for all currently employed, preparing them for employment in outsourcing sector under the Financial Accounting outsourcing domain. Upon successful completion of the training programme, trainees will appear for the Certified Outsourcing Specialist COS Certification from IAOP DURATION Total duration of the training programme: 20 days in Theory 15 days in e-learning. TARGET GROUP This Certificate in Certified Outsourcing Specialist (COS) Financial & Accounting programme is designed for graduates from commerce & others with knowledge of fundamentals of accounting system. 1

It is intended that this training programme would enhance graduates with knowledge and skills as well as increase their employability.

3 MODULE STRUCTURE Module Title : Foundations in Outsourcing Terminal Performance Objective : Given the complexity of the business world, the learner should be able to understand his role in an Outsourcing organization and environment in which the organization operates and the practices & process of Outsourcing Learning Experience : 1. Outsourcing History and Industry Transformation. Understanding history of outsourcing; the various reasons leading to outsourcing; key services offered by the industry and its socioeconomic implications. Understand emerging outsourcing opportunities and the highlights of various global destinations. Students will be well versed with the outsourcing concept. Learning Experience : 2. Core and Non-Core Processes Gain exposure to the fundamental principles of outsourcing in order for them to understand and apply all other related skills more effectively. Apply the relevant theories and practices through case studies, simulation and role play. Learning Experience : 3. Reasons for Outsourcing and Types of Outsourcing Understanding the industry Get well versed with the needs of the Industry Understand business propositions Business development & legal aspects of outsourcing. 2

The concept of BPO; Issues and Challenges Understand the challenges & issues in the BPO industry Awareness of the importance of business Processes in the changing global economy : Learning Experience Enabling Objectives 6. Types of BPOs, Basics of BPO Technology, Infrastructure : Knowledge Understand the meaning and application of BPO, KPO, LTO, HRO and ITO Study of critical BPO/ KPO domains like Customer Service, Transaction Processing, Back-office services, Finance & Accounting and Technical Support, Customer Interaction, Understand the infrastructure requirement of the agent and, technological requirements for the same. 6 MODULE STRUCTURE Module Title : Specialization: Financial Accounting Terminal Performance Objective : Given the growing opportunities in accounting process Outsourcing, the trainees will be able to gain relevant skills required to finalize, reconcile & present financial statements with analysis, understand relevant modules thereby ensuring a promising career in financial accounting outsourcing industry. Learning Experience : 1. Fundamentals of Finance, Accounting Understand Accounting principles, accounting Process, Revision of Journalizing and Preparation of Ledger Understand structure of Balance Sheet and Income Statement and constituents; Understanding basic concepts in cost management and managerial accounting ;Indirect location of Cost Introduction to Activity Based Costing; Input all relevant transactions into accounting process Preparation of P&L account and balance sheet Reconciliation Preparation of cost-statement Preparation of reports useful for managerial decision making 5

Understand the accounts receivables, establish credit policies and manage collections Prepare aging reports and define relevant actions Establishing, operating and modifying (whenever needed) accounts receivables, billing and collection in the selling process. Reporting & Analysis Study of ratio analysis of Financial statement, Understand funds-flow analysis Understand international reporting format for financial statements and purpose behind the same Apply liquidity, profitability and leverage ratios for financial analysis of a company Comment on the past and present financial health of the company Ensure the reporting of the company s information as per international reporting standards 6

Project work Enabling Objectives : The objective of this project is to examine application of accounting and or finance related techniques in real life cases to and enhance trainees analytical, problem-solving skills and gain some practical orientation. Trainees are required to undertake a group project (not more than 4 persons in a group) related to one of the following areas: a) Comparison of Accounting Practices as per GAAP and IFRS b) Comparison of stock market of Malaysia and Singapore on few suggested parameters c) Financial analysis of companies- Study and comparison Project should cover the following Enabling Objectives: Analyze all information of a given scenario Identify issues and propose appropriate solutions Make a presentation on analysis and proposal (All trainees must participate in presentation) Commented and give feedback for improvement on other trainees presentation.
