7 Kamloops and Quesnel All guests overnight in Kamloops* (Kicking Horse and Yellowhead Routes) or Quesnel (Fraser Discovery Route), British Columbia to ensure that the entire rail tour takes place in daylight. Kamloops is located in the heart of the Thompson Okanagan region of British Columbia between Vancouver and the Canadian Rockies. The name is derived from a Shuswap Indian word meaning meeting place because the city is nestled at a point in the valley where the North and South Thompson rivers meet. In July and August, visit Riverside Park to hear Music in the Park. The city of Quesnel is the gateway to the North Cariboo region, with a history dating back to the Cariboo Gold Rush. Numerous shops and restaurants stay open late to afford Rocky Mountaineer guests the opportunity to explore this quaint city. *Circumstances may necessitate the occasional accommodation change from Kamloops to the nearby resort of Sun Peaks. Accommodations You will stay in moderate two or three star accommodation with essential amenities to make your stay comfortable. Please note that Kamloops and Quesnel do not offer accommodation in the superior or deluxe category. You will be advised of your Kamloops or Quesnel accommodation location upon check-in at the rail station. If you require this information sooner, please call our Sales Centre at (Canada & U.S.A.) or (604) within 30 days of travel. Hotel Transfer A Rocky Mountaineer motorcoach will meet the train upon your arrival in Kamloops or Quesnel and transfer you to your accommodation. The following morning you will be transferred by motorcoach back to the station to resume your daylight adventure on the train. You will be fully briefed with details regarding transfers while on the train and motorcoach. Kamloops Kamloops and Quesnel Dining GoldLeaf Service Guests: Dinner at your Kamloops or Quesnel accommodation is included in your package. In Kamloops, optional evening entertainment is available at a reduced price. RedLeaf Service Guests: Many restaurant options are available in Kamloops and Quesnel. We invite you to enhance your western Canadian experience while in Kamloops with an evening at Two River Junction Musical Revue or The Great Canadian Lumberjack Show. Kamloops Optional Evening Entertainment A dinner and musical revue offering a fun-filled look at Canadian rail history. Enjoy the tale of infamous bandit Billy Miner s botched train robbery. Watch the fun as local reporter Mary Spencer tries to capture this exciting story, only to find instead that Billy has captured her heart. Over 280,000 guests from around the world have enjoyed this special evening at Two River Junction. A wild and entertaining evening show featuring an icon of Canada s West the lumberjack. This comedic story features two world-class lumberjacks competing to be the best in town. Recreating the historic world of a logging camp, the local lumberjacks will dazzle and amaze the audience with their skills, tricks and showmanship including axe-throwing and an entertaining log-rolling competition. To avoid disappointment, reserve your ticket through your booking agent or call us directly at (Canada & U.S.A.) or (604) Price includes buffet dinner, show, non-alcoholic beverages and motorcoach transfers to and from the show. 9 10

8 De s t i n at i o n s West Coast Vancouver Surrounded by stunning natural beauty, Vancouver is considered to be one of the most desirable places to live or visit in the world. A cosmopolitan city nestled between the Pacific Ocean and the Coast Mountains, and blessed with green spaces galore, Vancouver is an outdoor playground waiting to be discovered. Vancouver is also home to world-class entertainment, an abundance of first class restaurants and a diverse range of shopping options. Lake Louise 11 Whistler Whistler is a vibrant, four-season resort nestled in the Coast Mountains 120 kilometres (75 miles) north of Vancouver. Whistler is best known for Whistler Blackcomb, one of North America s top-rated ski resorts, however it is fast becoming famous for the multitude of summer activities and outdoor adventure pursuits including rafting, mountain biking, zip-lining and heli-hiking. Vancouver and Whistler are proud to host the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. Canadian Rockies The Canadian Rocky Mountains were formed millions of years ago as a result of the slow movement of the earth s crust and the grinding of massive glaciers, which sculpted the majestic Rockies during four major ice ages. Some of these glaciers measure 2,400 metres (8,000 feet) in thickness. It has been estimated that the oldest rock in the Canadian Rockies is over 600 million years old, and research has indicated that this mountain region was once ocean shoreline. Banff The town of Banff is named after Banffshire in Scotland, the birthplace of two major financiers of the Canadian Pacific Railway. The Banff townsite, nestled along the Bow Valley corridor within the national park boundary, continues to be dominated by the baronial and historic Banff Springs Hotel, complete with a luxurious European style spa. Vancouver Lake Louise Known to the Stoney Indians as Lake of the Little Fishes and called Emerald Lake by its first European visitor in 1882, Lake Louise was renamed in 1884 to honour Princess Louise Caroline Alberta, daughter of Queen Victoria. The village of Lake Louise offers a range of lodging, dining and shopping. From the village it is a five-minute drive to the lake itself. Jasper Jasper is a small town of 4,700 people tucked away amid the mountains of the Canadian Rockies. Situated on a plateau overlooking the Athabasca Valley, it commands a view of the Colin Range to the east and of the jagged peaks along the Icefield Parkway to the south. Snowcapped Mount Edith Cavell, one of the most prominent mountains, is the centerpiece of the alpine skyline. North of the town, Pyramid Mountain towers above Pyramid and Patricia lakes, popular summer boating, swimming and picnic sites. Wildlife The National Parks in the Canadian Rockies are a haven for flora and fauna. At the height of the flowering season, mid-july to mid-august, hundreds of wildflower species bloom in the Rockies. Trees of many different varieties landscape the park. Banff National Park alone is home to 57 mammal species, 265 species of birds, more than 290-odd species of butterflies and 19 fish species. Today, thousands of elk inhabit the parks. You may also see the majestic bighorn sheep, black bears, grizzly bears or moose. Bald eagles and osprey are prevalent along the route as well. 12
