Data Acquisition system paperless recorder VideoDataRecorder Chapter 1 Introduction VideoDataRecorder is a software for analogic data acquisition with N x 8 channels, N x 32 channels, N x 64 channels (N is the page virtual number) in Windows O.S.; it is a virtual instrument which works as a chart recorder. Fig. 1 Graphs Fig. 2 Pannels Data are not recorded on paper but on PC. They can be saved and exported in any type of Office formats, from ASCII to Excel files, or Database or Web in order to be elaborated in Back process and/or Office. VideoDataRecorder can be integrated with any equipment able to communicate to a PC in serial or parallel port or through Ethernet, using modbus or current loop as fieldbus; it has been used a COM/DCOM STL ATL technology in order to obtain an instrument which will be adaptable, scaleable and integrable to other applications. Channels can be set and gathered in pages; every page can contain at most 32 channels. 2

The plotting of the traces occurs in real time and it is also possible to set and change it dynamically. Scale it is possible to define a scale for each channel; Colour it is possible to choose a colour for each trace; Width it is possible to choose the thickness of a trace; Grid it can be displayed horizontally or vertically, or both; grid density, colour and thickness can be changed; Mono-trace for each instrument (selected channel), it is also possible to display just one trace while the pens of the others channels are still visible and keep on moving in real time; Paper Speed it simulates different speeds of sliding paper; Sample time it allows data back up Recording the begin and the end of the recording start/stop It is also possible let the paper sliding back, while data are recording, in order to check the past traces immediately. Data are saved and stored and they can be marked out directly from the VideoDataRecorder or exported to any Office Database or Web instruments. In order to have a reliable and safe tele-control, VideoDataRecorder can also be controlled and it warns in case of anomaly throughout the GSM system. In the management of a process and its evolution, organized and saved data are an advantage because a paper chart recorder does not give exact numeric information but just a trend. Furthermore, data should be saved on an electronic support. 3

This module creates configuration recipes for the instruments for different production. This module creates virtual channels as result of formulas among real variables of the process. For instance, acquiring current and voltage it is also possible to plot the power even if there is not an actual additional input. Data Integrity (Message marking MD5) in order to avoid any kind of data manipulation, with the use of proper controlling codes; in case of alteration, data are no more valid. Data Secrecy (Code encryption Procedure Triple DES) This module converts data in encryption data using an encryption algorithm. 4

Chapter 2 PC Configuration In the standard version, it is possible to set the data of communication between PC and the net or the fieldbus. From menu item Configuration/PC configuration Fig. 3 Main Menu Fig. 4 Serial Configuration PC Configuration Serial Port Change values Through the combo box Serial port; the serial port RS232 can be chosen where the net or the field bus is connected. Refresh all the parameters OK Cancel Configuration values are updated when the button Refresh all the parameters is pressed. It saves the configuration on file It does not save the configuration on file. 5

Chapter 3 Technical Units Configuration It is possible to add or delete technical units of measure from the menu \Technical Units of Measure. Fig. 5 Main Menu If you need to add a new technical unit of measure, write its symbol or abbreviation in the box and click on the button Add and it will appear on the list. On the contrary, if you want to delete a technical unit of measure, select it from the list and then, click on the Delete button. If the deleted unit was the technical unit of an instrument, when the configuration will be launched again, the instrument will be configured with another technical unit (the last one in the list). 7 Chapter 4 Instruments Configuration From this menu, it is possible to set all the specifications of the channels that must be plotted, Each set channel is corresponded by a pen in the grid plotting. Parameters are divided into 3 sections: Channel configuration: For each channel, it must be indicated the actual instrument represented and the parameters of its display. Standard configuration: The typical specifications for the plotting: sample time, number of the plotting instruments, etc. Pages Configuration: Channels can be gathered in different pages. In each page, display parameters must be set: for instance, the colour of the background page or the grid. Fig. 7 Main Menu The channel configuration creates a correspondence between a pen and the input of an instrument, specifying the instrument serial number and the number of the input. The model of instrument must be chosen in order to let the PC recognize the sort of input has been selected (analogic or digital) and how many inputs are on the instrument. Furthermore, pen drawing characteristics can be selected for representing the channel in the graph. 7

Chapter 19 Installation notes Windows NT 4.0 In order to carry out the installation by Windows Installer, it is necessari to install Windows NT4 Service Pack 6. Windows XP In case of Windows XP versions which are not original, or have been copied and cracked or the serial numbers have been found on Internet, our system (as it usual happens in these cases) could have an unsteady behaviour. Piracy Epik reminds you that the use of this software and all the operative systems (all the Windows versions, even if they are not the original, or have been cracked or copied) implies civil and penal sanctions and makes the system unsteady. Compatibility with other software The VideoDataRecorder installation program has been developed using Microsoft tools and following Microsoft rules. Each version has been tested on different Windows versions and installations and it does not behave irregularly in case of Windows Operative System components or other software. In any case, a backup of your particular data is suggested before installing the software. INSTALLATION From the Cd, launch Setup.exe; in case of error messages on dll system installation as MFC42d.dll, click the button Quit and complete the installation: dll system has been already installed. The access to the DataBase requests the use of ADO 2.5, which is in the directory /support of the installation CD. If it is not there, install it. Fig. 57 ADO 2.5 The access to the DataBase requests also the use of DCOM98. If it is not in the system, install it. Fig. 58 DCOM98 If you are working with Windows NT or Windows 2000, you need to set up the following driver for the communication with the hardware (drivers are in the subfolder WinNT). 40
