To lead the MA in Global Media and Communication from Autumn DUTIS AND RSPONSIBILITIS: 1. To lead the MA in Global Media and Communication, including managing the programme s marketing, admissions and finances, as well as providing strong intellectual leadership to the programme. 2. To teach one of the core modules of the MA in Global and Communication and one or more option modules. Option modules are open to students registered on any of the Centre s MA programmes. 3. To attract and supervise research students. 4. To contribute to a strong research base within the Centre in order to pursue individual or collaborative research of high quality, and to disseminate this to both academic and non-academic audiences. 5. To secure, in collaboration with colleagues as appropriate, external funding through research grants or contracts to support a developing research agenda. 6. To undertake academic duties (i.e. setting coursework, tutorials, marking, pastoral support, management of visiting and part-time lecturers, compliance with University quality assurance standards and procedures) required to sustain the delivery of high quality teaching at postgraduate level. 7. To undertake such specific Centre roles and management functions as may reasonably be required by the Centre Director, including attendance at Centre meetings and participation in other committees and working groups within the Centre, School, Faculty, and the University. 8. To engage in continuous professional development, including participation in relevant professional activities. 9. To develop new areas of research and research partnerships. 3 FURTHR PARTICULARS The University For further information about the University of Warwick, please visit our website at The Centre for Cultural Policy Studies stablished in 1995, the Centre for Cultural Policy Studies is an international centre for research and postgraduate teaching within the fields of cultural policy, communications and the management of creative and media industries. The Centre s distinctive approach is its engagement with both the practical realities of working in cultural professions and with theoretical questions around the conditions of contemporary culture. This approach is shaped by an ongoing commitment to preparing postgraduate students for careers in the creative and media industries. The Centre s work draws upon a range of disciplines and individual research interests. Our research engages with contemporary culture and current policy issues and can be pursued on either an individual basis or in collaboration with other researchers. We have an extensive range of international partners and our research has been supported by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC), the Higher ducation Funding Council for ngland (HFC) and Arts Council ngland (AC). In the 2008 RA, the department received a GPA score of The Centre s full-time members of staff are currently Dr Chris Bilton, the Centre s current director, who specialises in the management of creative and media enterprises and the creativity of management; Professor Oliver Bennett, whose current research interests revolve around cultural pessimism/optimism and implicit cultural policy; Dr Jonathan Vickery, whose research interests relate to urban cultural policy, in particular the aesthetic and political interpretation of urban spaces; Dr Clive Gray, whose research centres on museums policy and the politics of state cultural policy; Dr leonora Belfiore, whose current research centres on cultural value and on the value and impact of the arts and humanities; Dr David Wright, whose research interests are in the sociology of culture, popular culture and cultural taste; and Ruth Leary, director of the MA in Creative & Media nterprises whose research interests include creativity, new approaches to pedagogy and managing intellectual property. Members of academic staff from other departments who contribute to teaching or research in the Centre include: Professor Jeremy Ahearne (French Department); Professor Nigel Sykes (Warwick Business School); Professor David Wilson (Sociology). In addition, a wide range of distinguished practitioners and visiting experts also contribute to the work of the Centre either as part-time members of staff or as Associate Fellows. These include: Chris Arning (Creative Semiotics); Tim Walker (The Strategy Room and Leading Question music industry consultancy); Nic Garnett (BP Innovation and Interight, specialising in Intellectual property and DRM). The Centre offers three taught MA programmes: the MA in International Cultural Policy and Management (established in 1992 as the MA in uropean Cultural Policy and Administration); the MA in Creative and Media nterprises (established in 1999); and the MA in Global Media and Communication (established in 2005 as the MA in International Design and Communication Management). The MA in Global Media and Communication was launched in 2011/12 and received approximately 500 applications for places in its first year. These programmes are particularly attractive to students wishing to advance their careers and at the same time reflect on the wider implications of their work within a stimulating intellectual environment. Students may also register for research degrees, leading to the award of MA, MPhil or PhD in Cultural Policy Studies / Creative Industries. We are committed to teaching in relatively small classes and our class sizes normally range from In the current year, the Centre is host to a diverse international group of around taught Masters students and to eleven PhD students. 4 The Centre is a self-financing postgraduate centre within the University of Warwick, generating most of its income from postgraduate student fees. It is formally constituted as a University Research Centre, operating within the administrative framework of the School of Theatre, Performance and Cultural Policy Studies. This business model has provided a sound financial base for the Centre s teaching and research.
