2 Overview The use of big data has been much-talked-about these days, but the first and foremost premise for a company is setting a clear policy on handling internal and external data, and establishing a system to collect, store, analyze, use and protect large sets of data according to the policy. Without the existence of these data governance practices, big data will be of no use. What companies need to do is proper management of master data, reference data, and other cores of their information assets. For sharing knowledge on latest trends on data governance and master data management (MDM), Nikkei BP will hold an international conference MDM & Data Governance Summit Tokyo 2014, on June 12, 2014 in Tokyo. The Conference will invite the world-renowned analyst/consultant Mr. Aaron Zornes as a keynote speaker, while featuring solutions suggested by sponsor companies for increasing awareness on the importance of data governance and MDM. Furthermore, Nikkei BP ICT Innovation Research Institute will release a white paper reporting on insights and opinions learnt from the Conference. 7 About Tutorial/Workshop As a new trial, this event provides a tutorial and a workshop before and after the lectures. Normally in the US, it is common for a conference to hold a tutorial session for providing easy-to-understand guidance on the main topic or the workshop to stimulate discussion between invited experts and audience in early morning of the event (or a day before the event). In the tutorial session, the speaker will explain basic points of data governance and MDM, while the workshop will provide answers to questions from audience regarding the actual practices of data governance and MDM. Either of the sessions will help deepen the understanding on lecture topics among the audience. 7
