1 ACADEMIC ALERT # DATE: August 2014 COLLEGE: College of Arts and Sciences DECISION: Revised M.A. Public Policy Program RATIONALE: The redesign of the M.A. in Public Policy responds to a strong demand in the public sectors for professionals who understand the public policy process and can effectively lead change. The redesign includes: 1) changing the current program to a M.A. in Public Policy and Administration ;2) new and redesigned courses with a focus on policy and administration; and 3) three new 9SH concentrations: Health Services Administration, Global Social Policy, and Public Service Administration. The new program will prepare students for planning, policy and management at the local, state, federal and international levels, making them more marketable. Candidates in Fall 2013 (CH507PPOL) and the cohort starting in Fall 2014 (CH008GPPOL) will be informed of the deadline for completion of the MAPP program. Students admitted for 2015 and subsequent terms will follow the revised MAPPA program requirements. Implementation: Changes need to be entered in Banner, CAPP, the catalog and/or NLU web pages as appropriate. Staff in the Registrar, Admissions, Enrollment Management, and Marketing departments should be knowledgeable about the changes. Students academic advisors should advise accordingly. Copy for the next edition of the catalog will be written by the Assistant Registrar.
