Academic Dishonesty (AP 594, Academic Dishonesty): ACADEMIC DISHONESTY is defined in Administrative Procedure 594. A partial description of this procedure is given below.
3 Academic dishonesty is defined as an intentional act of deception in which a student seeks to claim credit for the work or effort of another person, or uses unauthorized material or fabricated information in any academic work. It includes, but is not limited to: A. Cheating - giving or receiving answers on assigned material, using materials or aids forbidden by the instructor... unauthorized possession of examinations... B. Plagiarism - offering someone else's work, words, or ideas as one's own or using material from another source without acknowledgement. C. Interference interfering without permission with the work of another student, either by obtaining, changing or destroying the work of another student. D. Buying or selling of term papers, homework, examinations, laboratory assignments, computer programs, etc. E. Falsifying of one's own or another's records F. Knowingly assisting someone who engages in A - E above. Penalties for students found to have committed academic dishonesty include, but may not be limited to, the following: A. Lowering of a grade or failure for a particular assignment, B. Lowering of a grade, failure, and/or dismissal from the course. C. Disciplinary probation-may include a limitation on credits, mandatory repeat of a course, etc. D. Suspension from a curriculum. E. Suspension from the College Makeup Work: Make-Up Policy: Due dates are fixed and well publicized. It is your responsibility to complete the relevant activities on time. If there are extenuating circumstances (travel for work, death in the family, etc) alert the instructor as soon as possible and alternate arrangements may be possible. It is very unlikely that you will be granted an extension unless you have contacted the instructor BEFORE the due date. Late Assignment Policy: Late work will NOT be accepted, unless arrangements have been made BEFORE the due date. W Grade (compliant with AP 667, Grades W, I, Y): Students who have made an honest effort in the course or have extenuating circumstances may be given a W grade if they request to be dropped from the course. Students that have not made satisfactory effort (did not attempt assignments) or students that simply disappear will be given an F grade when dropped. Grading System & Course Requirements (exams, papers, lab procedures, lab supplies, etc.): HW Quizzes HW Quizzes There will be weekly homework quizzes. These quizzes will test your understanding of the material presented.
4 Hands On Exercises Hands On Exercises are designed to give you hands on experience with the commands and concepts covered in the learning module. Some of them will guide you through while giving exact commands to use. Others will give you a task to complete that you should be able to complete from the readings or podcasts. Discussion Board postings You are required to make a Discussion Board posting for each learning module. These are graded items. Tests Tests 2 tests are scheduled for this course (dates are listed on the class calendar). Each test will include the content of the class to that point. We will also have a final exam at the completion of the class (includes all content of the class). The tests may contain 2 parts, a written portion (true/false, multiple choice, essay, short answer - completed with the Desire2Learn testing system) and a lab portion (a hands on part of the exam addressing the topics completed so far in the class). Study guides with details about the exam and topics of study for the exam may be shared close to exam time. The final exam will only consist of a written portion.
