1 August, 2007 Session #1 G. T. C. O. NEWSLETTER WELCOME BACK! Note from Al, Thank you for choosing GTCO for your child. You may not even realize what a great choice you have made. Gymnastics has been around a long time; it was at one point the basis of most Physical Education programs. Gymnastics with its variety of strength and flexibility is the best cross training activity around. Golf swings, wrestlers, dancers and x-treme sport enthusiasts can all benefit from the balance, co-ordination, flexibility and spatial awareness acquired in gymnastics. It is, no pun intended, a well-balanced activity. Studies have shown it even has a positive impact of cognitive, and sensory motor skills. We take great pride in providing a program that works for everyone. Toddler, pre-schooler, or advanced competitive program GTCO has something for everyone. The discipline needed to succeed at the various activities in the gym help provide a solid base for a successful individual. For more information on our programs stop by the front desk and ask for the articles on the many, sometimes not realized, benefits of our program. Cheer, Gymnastics and tumbling there is much more to what we do than meets the eye. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to make a positive lifelong impact on your child. GTCO HAS NEW PHONE SERVICES As an effort to streamline our processes and make it easier for our current students and parent to contact the appropriate person directly, we have installed a new phone service. Tumblegarten, Co-ed tumbling and instructional education leave messages with the front desk. Let us know what you think, and if you have any problems. We are working out the bugs on our new Voice over Internet system. Any comments or suggestions are welcome; please don t hesitate to let us know what you think. Thanks.

2 Helping One Another Thanks To All Who Attended Garage Sales GTCO teams up with Children s Miracle Network & USAG to raise money. The Rings & Beams Booster Organization along with the GTCO Volts would like to say thanks to all the people who braved the extremely hot weather conditions to support our garage sales. Our gymnasts and cheerleaders appreciate your support. GTCO Teams With Children s Miracle Network GTCO has teamed with the Children s Miracle Network (CMN) and the USAG to help raise funds for CMN through the recycling of cell phones and printer ink cartridges. Just place those empty cartridges and old phones in a plastic zip-loc bag and place them in the box by the cafe. CMN could make up to $12 per cartridge or up to $45 per cell phone. Join in this effort along with other gyms from across the country for this worthy cause. Save your old cell phones and empty ink cartridges, GTCO has plans for them!

3 Women s Competitive Team Welcome To Level 4 s! The Women s Team would like to welcome all new Level 4 s to our program. Meet schedules for compulsory and optional gymnasts are coming soon. Please let your child s coach know as soon as possible if you have a scheduling issue. We are looking forward to a great competitive season, with many returning experienced upper level gymnasts. Yeh, GTCO! Women s coaches: Faye Campana, Janel O Sullivan, Missy Hart, Allan Powers, Amibeth Hardy, and Jake Chamberlain GTCO To Host Level 9 Nationals! WOW! WOW! This is a great opportunity for our gym, gymnasts, and organization. Coming in the spring, will be some of the best gymnasts in the USA, competing right in our own backyard! Look for more information, all help will be appreciated, this is a huge responsibility for our gym and parents!

4 Again this session we will be asking students to pick up, fill out and return our tumbling goal sheets. GTCO has a variety of levels within our tumbling program, and we strive to provide an all-encompassing program for whatever level of tumbling your child may be. We use a series of progressions from rolls, handstands, cartwheels, barrels and pits for a safe and fun learning process. We focus on the core tumbling skills in our beginning and traditional groups, then look to the individual for more personalized goals within the advanced class. This goal sheet will greatly enhance our ability to work on the less mainstream tumbling skills that some advisors want to make their performances unique. If your child did not receive a paper in class, please stop by the front desk for a copy. Remember GTCO has a various levels of tumbling classes. Advanced classes are for those students working on flips or harder skills. Advanced classes fill quickly and rarely are make-ups possibly in the advanced class; however, students may make-up in a regular tumbling class. Beginner tumbling focuses on the foundation of tumbling. Handstands, cartwheels and drills to strengthen muscle groups are necessary for a safe back handspring. Beginner classes do not work advanced tumbling skills, and students should move to the traditional tumbling class upon the instructor s advice. The back handspring is our focus in the beginner tumbling, and we strive to provide drills that allow for a confident and safe progression of the skill, realizing that the mental is just as important as the physical in achieving success with a back handspring. Kinder tumble is designed for our younger and smaller students. Within this group it is much like a beginner tumbling class but the age is limited. This generally allows us to keep the same equipment for each student, because there is not much size difference in our students. Any class in the brochure not noted as one of the three above is considered our traditional co-ed tumbling class. It is designed to work with everyone from a standing back handspring to running tumbling and flips. Please take a moment to insure your child is in the proper tumbling group and take care to sign up in the proper class should a make-up be needed. As always any questions or comments may be directed to the instructor. us at , or at GTCOINC@AOL.COM. Reminders Tumblegarten & Tumbling Tumble Time Several class times have changed, please look at the Fall schedule! Boys Tumblegarten & Educational *The sixth week is always testing week *You are allowed two make-ups per session. They must be scheduled in advance. (We must regulate the student to teacher ratio.) *If you have any questions or concerns please: *Talk to your child s instructor *Talk to the Tumblegarten Director (if not available, please leave a note and I will return your call). Welcome back to everyone. Hope that all of you had an enjoyable summer! The Boys Coaching Staff is looking forward to a very successful session. Who knows maybe your son is the next Olympian. Our program is designed so that each child will learn the basics of gymnastics while having a good time. If you have any questions or concerns, please see your instructor or give me a call at
